Dear Friends,

Christmas is about a week away, yet it is 70 degrees here in Los Angeles.  I watch national snowstorms on the news with a mixture of concern and, I'll admit, envy.  After the recent rains here, the mountains surrounding my home were snowcapped . . . for about a minute.  For solace I watched Bing Crosby sing "White Christmas" on AMC while eating a fruitcake (a good one) given to me by a client.

Another thing I love about the holiday season is the music.  Have you noticed that there are lots of songs about bells?  "Silver Bells," " Jingle Bells" and "Jingle Bell Rock" are a few popular ones.  It occurred to me that loved ones in spirit often say "hello" by ringing bells, wind chimes, doorbells and making noise in general.  In this month's article, "Let Spirits Ring," discover ways that those you love may ring in the holidays with you.  Many of you already have ringing stories to share, so feel free to post one on my Facebook page.  If you're not on Facebook, don't worry, you can send your story or comment to [email protected] and we'll post it for you.

Holidays are also a time for gift giving.  Many of you have asked if I offer gift certificates for sessions and events.  Now I do!  If you're interested in giving the gift of Spirit this holiday season, or any time, please contact my office for more information.

In years past, I've sent out a poem that I wrote called, "When You Think of Those You Love."  We've received emails asking if I'm distributing it again this year.  Instead, I've posted a video of myself reading the poem on YouTube for you to share with family and friends.

Amidst the music, the food, the holiday trimmings and maybe even a sleigh ride, please know that those you love in spirit are sharing their love with you.

Let spirits ring,

Let Spirits Ring
                                 by Hollister Rand Holiday Bells

"Your husband rings the bells," I said to a woman during a recent phone session. "They're in a place where you sit everyday and work, he's telling me." "Funny that you should mention bells; they ring when there's no wind," she replied. "My husband hung them right outside my home office window shortly before he died." Spirits like to ring bells.

Spirits talk with me about bells, a lot. Actually, I've heard more ringing and chiming stories than flickering light stories.

So why is it that spirits have such a fascination for bells? Well, first of all, bells get our attention. It is very difficult to ignore ringing, whether it is a phone, a doorbell or clock. Ringing can even be annoying if it happens in the middle of the night or lasts beyond a reasonable period of time. During a group session, a woman's son in spirit said that he was ringing the doorbell. "Well, that figures," she said. "The doorbell rings late at night. When I get up to check, no one is there." She had even called an electrician to come out and fix the problem, but the doorbell still rang. After thinking a moment, she said, "I used to wait up for my son to come home no matter how late it was. I think he's letting me know that he's home."

At a large group event, a mother in spirit announced to her daughter that she was making the mantle clock chime. "That darn clock never kept time when my mother had it in her house," the daughter said. "Now it chimes every quarter hour like clockwork!"

I had a personal spirit encounter with a telephone call from heaven. When my phone rang one day, I picked it up and heard, "Hello, Holli" in a very familiar voice. "Brett, is that you?" I asked, forgetting in that moment that Brett had died months earlier. Then another voice came on the line and said, "I must have the wrong number." No, I thought. It was definitely therightnumber.

Another reason I think that spirits ring bells is that bells are used throughout the world not only for spiritual purposes but to announce good news.  For instance, I know that there's a wedding coming up in a family, when a spirit shows me wedding bells above the head of a sitter.

Bells are also rung as a call to action when there is a danger or threat to survival. For example, the World Council of Churches called on churches around the world to ring their bells 350 times during the Copenhagen climate change summit. "On that Sunday, the WCC invites churches around the world to use their bells, drums, gongs or whatever their tradition offers to call people to prayer and action in the face of climate change," the WCC said in a statement.

On a smaller and more personal scale, spirits can use bells to alertusto danger. During a session with a college-aged woman, her father in spirit gave me the sound of a car door bell dinging in my ear. I had no idea what that meant until the young woman explained that late one night she started to fall asleep at the wheel of her car. She was awakened by the sound of her car door bell, and an accident was avoided. She was amazed by the experience because the door was shut tightly and locked. "Dad always looked out for me," she said.

Yes, those in spirit are looking out for us. They're sharing in our good news. They're letting us know that they're home. And they're definitely ringing to say, "hello."

It would be great to hear how your loved ones in spirit are making noise inyourlife. I'm sure that those reading this newsletter would be encouraged by your experiences, too. Please post your messages on myFacebookpage or send them to[email protected].
