DVB at India's BES Expo | |
The Broadcast Engineering Society of India's (BES) annual International Conference and Exhibition on terrestrial and satellite broadcasting took place from February 24th to 26th 2011 in New Delhi, India. The theme of this year's conference and exhibition was 'Broadcast Technology - Emerging Trends'.
One emerging trend is the very strong global interest for DVB's second generation terrestrial standard, DVB-T2. India has recently announced plans for a tender for DVB-T2 networks in most major cities across the country, making this potentially the world's largest DVB-T2 community. With this positive decision and direction, the DVB Project was present at BES Expo to support the Indian broadcast industry with this choice. Read full story... |

DVB-T2 at the ABU in Kuala Lumpur
| |

In a pre-conference event at this year's Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's Digital
Broadcasting Symposium in Kuala Lumpur, the DVB co-hosted an important 4-day DVB-T2 field trial to showcase the technology and its superior capabilities. Also scheduled to coincide with the field trial was a DVB-T2 transmission workshop that presented implementation and operational aspects of the second-generation digital terrestrial transmission system.
The trial was extremely successful and gave immeasurable exposure to DVB-T2 and this interest flowed on to the Symposium. The trial was attended by nearly 100 participants representing most countries in the region, including Turkey. The DVB-T2 transmission workshop was held over two days. John Bigeni, DVB's Asia representative, gave three presentations including lengthy analyses of DVB-T technology as a foundation to the second generation DVB-T2 technologies. Other speakers included representatives from Teamcast, Rohde & Schwarz and Media Broadcast. An accompanying DVB-T2 demonstration showed 4 HD services, courtesy of the BBC, being received off-air from the KL Tower.
A full report on the Symposium and the trials will appear in the next issue of DVB Scene Enews.

At the 67th Meeting of the Steering Board, the DVB approved the latest version of its specification for interactivity - Globally Executable MHP (GEM). This new version of GEM v1.3 prepared by the ad-hoc group TM-MUG, chaired by Michael Lagally (Oracle), now provides support for Over-The-Top (OTT) television and Hybrid Broadcast/Broadband (HBB).
