October 7, 2011

Greetings!

May this October find you well, energized, and nestled into your fall routine.

This posting offers a video reflection on the World Synod of Bishops' 1971 statement, Justice in the World; an important background piece on the drought in Somalia appropriate for World Food Day on October 16; and a reflection suitable for class discussion of the moral ambiguity of Columbus Day. You will also find several resources to promote peace.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or feedback as to what is most helpful in your work.

Stunning picture of child with hands over hungry bellyThis two page backgrounder provides critical information for understanding the famine in Somalia and surrounding areas. It reviews the region's tendency towards drought, how colonization played a role in later political challenges, and reviews the role of the terrorist group Al Shabaab in obstructing humanitarian aid. Includes a map and reference to online video clips.
