Dear ,

We continue to send our prayers of support to the people of Haiti and all those who are coming to assist them in this time of devastation. We also need greater understanding of the root causes of Haiti's poverty that make this tragedy exponentially worse.

As we approach the season of Lent, we can continue to find ways to allow the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to call us to deeper conversion and greater solidarity.

Please see the list at the left for new resources just created to support your work in educating for justice.

Peace,
Sr. Katherine Feely, SND

Film Discussion Guide: Sr.Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN
Sr. Dorothy Stand, SNDden Anniversary:  February 13
Sr. Dorothy ("Dot") was killed in 2005 at the age of 73 after she fought to preserve a piece of jungle that ranchers wanted to clear for logging and cattle ranching. She had spent about two decades fighting destruction of the Amazon, and was viewed as a leader in the movement for sustainable development there.

This documentary is a ground-breaking documentary feature and a true courtroom drama that follows the trial of Dorothy's killers and examines her life's work in the rainforest of Brazil.

Human Rights and Iran
Iran Image Why we need to pay attention...
While the U.S. media has turned its focus from Iran, egregious violations of human rights continue there.  On January 9, 2010, Iranian police arrested 33 mothers of young adults who were killed in the protests; these women were demonstrating peacefully in memory of their children.   With growing reports of rape in Iranian prisons as a retaliation against female protestors, the world needs to see, reflect and act on behalf of the people of Iran.
