Action #1: Give - Donate to Relief Efforts of CRS
Catholic Relief Services
Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian agency of the U.S.
bishops' conference, was asked by the Pontifical Council Cor Unum to coordinate
aid for earthquake victims in Haiti.
CRS has a staff of about 300 in Haiti. That includes 120 in Port-au-Prince. Catholic Relief Services is sending more staff to Haiti. In addition to the link below, another way to donate to CRS is to text RELIEF to 30644 and
follow the instructions.

Action #3: Learn More: Educational Backgrounder |
Natural Disasters and Haiti: A Tragic History Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. In 2008 alone, three hurricanes have hit Haiti and the toll has been devastating. This two-page resource highlights how poverty in Haiti has made the impact of these hurricanes worse and what can be done to respond both in the short run and the long run. Go to resource
Action #4: Advocate - Sign on to Legislation to Support Haiti Relief Efforts
A bill by Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of
New York and Bill Nelson of Florida, and Republican Sen. George LeMieux
of Florida, are introducing legislation they hope will encourage people to give to the relief effort in Haiti.
They want to waive limits on tax deductions on donations specifically for Haiti, something Congress did on donations to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. Track Bill Progress

Action #5: Build Long-term Solidarity
Solidarity in Action
Support Hatians in your community with prayer and your presence. Consider ways that you and your faith or school community can continue to respond to the long-term rebuilding needs on the people of Haiti and build ongoing solidarity. Brainstorm ways that your financial support will be needed once the immediate emergency has ended.
