September
|
September 4, 2009 |
|
Dear ,
September seems to come around faster and faster with each passing year. As we approach the anniversary of 911 we are reminded again of the precious nature of life and the hope for peace that endures. Helen Keller said, "Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light." Even in the midst of darkness, faith can be a source of great strength and reveal the true light we seek.
We have an exciting line-up of new resources for you in this issue. Please see the listing at the left for great tools to support your work in living the gospel and passing on the faith. Don't miss our newsletter archive - all the latest resources in one place for you!

We Celebrate the Life of Jim McGinnis |
|
Jim passed away suddenly on Aug 13.
James, "Jim", McGinnis, died
suddenly August 13, 2009 near his home in St. Louis, MO. Jim gave his life's energy and passion working to promote peace and nonviolence through
education, social action, love and prayer. Alongside his wife,
Kathy, he founded and directed the Institute for Peace and Justice (IPJ). Jim's latest work was a book of prayers, "Praying for Peace Around the Globe," (featured here just a few months ago). Jim's witness included small acts of kindness like putting his neighbors' newspapers on their front steps every day, to working to address the systemic causes of injustice.
When asked what advice would he give to the next generation of church and civil leaders he responded: "Find "soul mates" - a life partner and close
friends to nurture, challenge, and support you in your values. Link your life
with people whose witness will stretch you and with people whose suffering and
struggles will touch your heart. Reach out beyond your own comfort zone and
ally yourself with people and groups from other racial/cultural groups, other
faith communities, and people whose life experience is different from your own.
Make time for daily communion with Jesus and the Word of God, for beauty and
play, stay close to the earth and don't be afraid to try new stuff."
We celebrate Jim's life and extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Kathy, his children, and grandchildren.
