| 2008-2009 Campaign Update
Our community needs us all to LIVE UNITED!
|
In these tough economic times, our community needs us to reach out a hand now more than ever. The calls coming in to the United Way office, the 2-1-1 Call Center, and Family Services Center from residents requesting help with food and utilities are increasing in volume every day. Reports of friends and neighbors losing their jobs continue to be the topic of conversation. United Way's volunteer leadership set a goal of $1.5 million at the beginning of our 2008-2009 campaign. The fundraising efforts currently total $1,032,756. Many of the agencies in our community who provide critical health and human services depend on United Way's fundraising efforts to continue their work. Reaching our goal ensures that help is available in these tough times. We need your help and continued support. Reach out a hand to one, and influence the condition of all. Please give. Randolph County: A community that Lives United Share-A-Meal feeds over 700 residents
|
Volunteers came together in Randolph County to provide a hot Thanksgiving meal to over 700 residents in need. The Share-A-Meal program was the result of the combined efforts of over 130 volunteers, 16 churches, numerous organizations and businesses, and United Way. Kim Loveless, volunteer coordinator for the event, said United Way's slogan of "LIVE UNITED" really came to life through the diverse group of volunteers. United Way was crucial to the event's success, she said. Preparations for the meal began before midnight at The Galley restaurant in Roanoke on Wednesday and continued through Thursday morning. Some guests came into the restaurant to eat but most of the meals were delivered to homes. People were so appreciative, Loveless said. Some guests enjoyed the meal and insisted on making a donation. Others were just thankful to receive a visit and a hot meal. "It was really just a day of caring and sharing," Loveless said. "This event would not have been possible without the outpouring and support of our community." | |

United Way wishes you a warm holiday season and a remarkably good and happy 2009.
