NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP DAY Proudly sponsored by the City of Anniston

United Way encourages everyone to get involved in improving our towns, cities, and communities, and here is a way for you and your family to help. On October 25, 2008, the City of Anniston will sponsor a Neighborhood Clean-Up Day from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Volunteers will meet at 17th Street & Quintard Avenue (across from Anniston Fire Station #1) at 8:00 a.m. to begin working on several city streets and alley ways clearing litter and debris. The city will provide several large dumpsters FREE of charge for city residents to dispose of general discarded items from their properties. There may even be a friendly rivalry between Alabama and Auburn fans to see who can collect the most litter! At noon, there will be a tailgate party and drawing for some exciting prizes. Come out and help make a difference in your community. If you would like additional information, please contact Tana Bryant with the City of Anniston at (256) 231-7733 or email her at tbryant@ci.anniston.al.us.

DANCING WITH OUR STARS

Dancing With Our Stars

On the evening of October 25, 2008, the Anniston Morning Rotary club will host the first annual 'DANCING WITH OUR STARS' event based on the popular TV reality show.  All proceeds from the show, to be held at the Anniston High School Auditorium, will go to support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (a United Way initiative), Concern For Children, Pre-School Friends, and HIPPY (Family Links, Inc.).

The Anniston Morning Rotary club chose these programs because of their effectiveness in improving literacy in young children and providing them the skills needed to become well adjusted members of society. The club intends to raise enough money through this show to help these programs expand and serve even more children of Calhoun County.

America has embraced TV talent shows which follow contestants through rehearsals and trials.  Our "home grown" version features rehearsal videos by different dance partners so that Calhoun County residents can also follow the "drama" of turning a judge, politician or other local celeb with two left feet into an accomplished dancer.   Supporters are encouraged to vote online (with dollars) for their favorite couple and attend the event to cast another vote.  There will also be a juried category where the dancers will actually compete for trophies based on skill as opposed to popularity!  The dancers need support - so voting early is encouraged.

All the couples are now practicing for the big event, and rehearsal videos and bios of the dancers and stars are now online.  Fifteen couples are on the slate, including the President of JSU, Calhoun County's Sheriff, the Anniston Mayor, the Anniston City School Superintendant, and more.  Jeh Jeh Pruitt from Fox 6 News will serve as emcee for the event.

To check out the complete roster go to www.AnnistonMorningRotary.org .  You can VOTE, WATCH VIDEOS and BUY TICKETS on the site!  Tickets can also be purchased at Couch's Jewelers, Joy Christian Supply in Jacksonville, the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and RMC Business Center.
