Dancing with Our Stars

LOCAL CELEBRITIES SHAKE THEIR BOOTIES FOR CHARITY
Calhoun County "stars" pair with talented dancers to raise money for early childhood programs

On October 25, 2008 the Anniston Morning Rotary club will host the first annual 'DANCING WITH OUR STARS' event based on the popular TV reality show.  All proceeds from the show, to be held at the Anniston High School, will go to support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (a United Way initiative), Concern For Children, Pre-School Friends, and HIPPY (Family Links, Inc.).

The Anniston Morning Rotary club chose these programs because of their effectiveness in improving literacy in young children and providing them the skills needed to become well adjusted members of society. The club intends to raise enough money through this show to help these programs expand and serve even more children of Calhoun County.

America has embraced TV talent shows which follows each contestant through rehearsals and trials.  This home grown version of the popular ABC TV show features rehearsal videos by different dance partners so that Calhoun County residents can also follow the "drama" of turning a judge, politician or other local celeb with two left feet into an accomplished dancer.   Supporters are encouraged to vote online (with dollars) for their favorite couple and attend the event to cast another vote.  There will also be a juried category where the dancers will actually compete for trophies based on skill as opposed to popularity!  The dancers need support - so voting early is encouraged.

Response to the event has been overwhelmingly positive.  Annie Brunson, chair of the fundraiser, said that she is thrilled at how responsive local dancers and stars have been to the project.  All the couples are now practicing for the big event and rehearsal videos and bios of the dancers and stars are now online.  Fifteen couples are on the slate, including the president of JSU, Calhoun County's Sheriff, the Anniston Mayor, the Anniston City School Superintendant, local judges and more.  Jeh Jeh Pruitt from Fox 6 News will serve as emcee for the event.

To check out the complete roster go to www.AnnistonMorningRotary.org .  You can VOTE, WATCH VIDEOS and BUY TICKETS on the site!  Tickets can also be purchased at Couch's Jewelers, Joy Christian Supply in Jacksonville, the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and RMC Business Center.
