Excitement Builds for the LIVE UNITED Campaign at this Year's Kick-off Event
.jpg) The excitement has been building, and now it's official! The 2008-2009 campaign is in full swing for United Way of East Central Alabama. The start of a new United Way Campaign is always cause for celebration, and 350 local residents were on hand Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at The Bridge in Anniston to mark this year's kick-off. Even JSU's mascot, Cocky, was in on the action proudly wearing his LIVE UNITED t-shirt. The program focused on United Way's new direction and its three community initiatives: 2-1-1; Success by 6; and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Those present experienced a live call to the 2-1-1 call center, viewed this year's Campaign Video, and witnessed a surprise appearance by "Dolly" who was on hand to promote Imagination Library. Well, maybe it wasn't Dolly. Actually, United Way's Executive Director, Curtis Simpson, did his best Dolly impression, but he fell a little short by refusing to shave off the gray moustache. He put his whole heart into it, and proved there wasn't much he wouldn't do to help meet the needs of our community. Campaign Chair and Co-Chair, Sean Johnson and Joe Whitmore, announced that the 2008-2009 Campaign goal has been set at $1.5 million. Mr. Johnson stated that a dynamic Campaign Cabinet has been .jpg) assembled and the end result will be exciting to see.The money raised will work right here where we all live, work, and play to create lasting change and build a stronger community. We would especially like to thank our Campaign Sponsors who make our events possible. We encourage you to click here to view a list of the 2008-2009 Campaign Sponsors. |
Your United Way Meets National Membership Requirements
The "Membership Requirements Completed" icon denotes that the United Way of East Central Alabama has successfully completed all of the United Way of America membership requirements by their respective due dates. The requirements include Membership Requirements Certification, Membership Investment, the Database 2 Survey of Total Resources Generated (a survey that captures the full extent of a community's resource development efforts during the year) and a report of this United Way's annual income and expenses. Over and above the annual requirements, United Way of East Central Alabama completed a mandatory organizational self-assessment as part of this process. The membership requirements must be certified annually in order to remain a member of the United Way system. It is important for United Ways to maintain high standards of accountability, and this is part of the process to confirm that the operations are transparent and meet or exceed United Way membership requirements.
