It's hard to believe that we're already in our third month of 2012. Time certainly seems to be flying by this year. Perhaps that's because there is always something fun and exciting going on.

Winter may have taken its time Snowboarding at Badger Passgetting here, but the ski conditions are now perfect at the iconic Badger Pass in Yosemite.

Renowned for their ski school which has helped novices learn the sport since 1928, Badger Pass is a great location for beginners just getting started or experts looking for a fun run.

You can ski for less as well. Stop by the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau and ask about our discounted lift ticket vouchers. All you have to do is show you're staying at one of our lodging properties.  
Quady Winery to celebrate
St. Patrick's Day

Quady Winery will not only be open St. Patrick's Day Weekend but will celebrate the holiday with flair. 

 

St. Patrick's Day has become associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Quady will offer a taste of green, 'liquid gold' and Quady Shamrock shakes!

 

A special wine gift pack will be available at a discounted price March 17 & 18; take the Irish spirit home and continue the celebration.

Madera Wine Trail California Wineries 
 

The Madera Vintners Association's family wineries are proud to present the Madera Wine Trail's "Meet the Winemaker Weekend" on May 12 and 13 from 10 am to 5 pm. 

 

This is a perfect chance to show mom your appreciation and take her on the Wine Trail with you. With your ticket, you will receive a passport wine glass good for wine-tasting the entire weekend. Taste a wide variety of local wines as you visit each participating winery on the Madera Wine Trail.

The winemakers of the Madera Wine Trail will pour and discuss their handcrafted wines, offering tours and more. On this special weekend, you will also enjoy live music, local art and delicious food!

Fresno Flats continues Oakhurst's centennial celebration
 

As the community of Oakhurst continues with the year-long celebration of its centennial, Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park has a series of events planned highlighting the area's unique history. The latest delves into a WWII mystery.

On Friday, March 9, Fresno Flats presents Tony Krizan, popular columnist with Sierra Star Newspaper, who will speak on his second search for the lost

P40 Aircraft which went missing in our Sierra Nevada Mountains near the Kings Canyon wilderness.  

 

He will share a slide story with us at Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park on School Road (Road 427). Dinner and program begin at 5:30. Admission $10.00.The public is invited to this interesting adventure evening, the first in its Centennial series of informative and entertaining programs.

You don't have to be Irish to join the Blue Heron in Yosemite Lakes Park for our St. Patrick's Day celebration on Saturday, March 17th. But if you like Corned Beef, Cabbage and Beer you'll have a good time at the Clubhouse from 5 to 8 pm. We are offering a Corned Beef and Cabbage Buffet, green Beer and, of course, our regular menu. New this year is live Celtic music from the Gaelic String Band. To accommodate dancing we will move the party into the Fireside Room. Please make sure you call ahead to let us know you are coming so we can order enough food. This is going to be a very casual event. Come in, find a table, order with your server from our regular menu or eat from the buffet.

ECCO hosts Opera event

 Evergreen Conference Center Oakhurst is pleased to announce the 17th annual Opera at Oakhurst from April 12 to 16. The featured speaker will be Dr. Simon Williams from University California at Santa Barbara.

 The program theme will be Grand Opera - the development and growth of Grand Opera. The program examines the exotic locations and colorful historical eras.

Operas reviewed include Rossini's Guillaume Tell, Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots as well as the works of Verdi, Wagner, and Donizetti. Program attendees learn how contemporary theatre has responded to the challenge offered by the profoundly-moving magnificence of Grand Opera.

Mono Museum Hosts Bunco NightSierra Mono Indian Museum    

The Sierra Mono Indian Museum in North Fork hosts a special Bunco Night, with proceeds helping to raise funds for the annual North Fork Indian Fair Days and Pow Wow in August. The Bunco night is Saturday, March 10 at the North Fork Community Center. Doors open at 5 pm with the dice rolling at 6. There will be great food and prizes, and it only costs $5 to enter. Historic Railroad gets ready to start season Railroad
Get ready to ride the rails, because the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad kicks off their 2012 season March 17. The Jenny Railcars start rolling out that Saturday. The Thornberry Museum also opens, as well as their extensive gift shop and gold-panning operation. (Gold panning contingent on weather). Yosemite South KOA announces Spring Fling KOA 

Yosemite South KOA is hosting their first-ever Spring Fling April 28 and 29. The event features live music, vendors and a car show. The fling runs from 9:30 am to 5 pm Saturday and 9:30 am to 4 pm Sunday. Half of all proceeds go to Kids Care Camps. 

 

Zephyr Whitewater Rafting season nears  

The popular whitewater rafting trips in Yosemite led by Zephyr Whitewater will resume April 7. From then until the season closes, Zephyr will host both full and half-day tours down the Merced River. Visit www.zrafting.com to learn more.
