Pomegranate Celebration Oct 29 - Nov 5
Madera Chamber celebrates heart-healthy fruit
 Madera Pomegranate Celebration
The Tourism Alliance of the Madera Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the pomegranate in a big way with the inaugural Madera Pomegranate Celebration.

Madera is known as the Heart of Pomegranate Country, as the region grows a tremendous amount of the pomegranates produced by the US, and almost all the fruit grown in California comes to Madera for processing.

The week-long celebration will feature events at businesses throughout Madera showcasing pomegranates. From artwork featuring the fruit to restaurants using them in delicious recipes and stores offering discounts during the week, pomegranates will be on display throughout Madera.

A recipe contest will also test the skills of professional and amateur chefs alike. They can use arils (seeds), juice or concentrate in dishes and a cocktail.

The celebration culminates in a Festival Saturday, Nov 5 at Appellation California. There will be live music featuring Deja Blues, cooking demonstrations, gardening tips on how to grow your own pomegranate tree, food vendors and much more.

To learn more, visit www.PomegranateFestival.com. The Madera Pomegranate Celebration and Festival is a Madera Chamber of Commerce event, with presenting sponsor Stiebs and major sponsor Stellar Distributing

New member highlight: China Delight
Providing a taste of China in Madera County

Dany Chung - Owner of China Delight
Danny Chung, owner of China Delight, moved to the area after visiting. He soon opened China Delight, focusing on affordable authentic Chinese cuisine.

Millions of people come through the region every year, attracted to Yosemite and the area's scenic beauty. Some enjoy it so much they stay; that's the case with China Delight owner Danny Chung.

Chung moved to Oakhurst last year from San Francisco. He had gone to Yosemite "countless" times, but first came through Oakhurst and the surrounding area last year and decided to stay. He quickly found the opportunity to provide residents and visitors alike with traditional Chinese cuisine and purchased China Delight.

Located right off Highway 41 adjacent to the Best Western, China Delight has a full menu featuring authentic recipes highlighting favorite Chinese dishes, from soups like Wor Wan Ton or Hot and Sour to main courses like Mu Shu Pork, Mongolian Beef or Sweet and Sour Chicken.

Enjoy combo platters in their spacious dining room or get your food to go and dine al-fresco in the beautiful surroundings. Bring your appetite, but you won't need to bring your savings, as China Delight's menu is full but affordable.

China Delight is located at 40484 Highway 41. 559-641-5888.

Quady Winery hosting Colombus Day tasting event

Just as Christopher Columbus was an explorer, so is Quady Winery. From aperitifs to sweet wine, moscatos to Starboard (Port) Quady has built a reputation for deviating into under- appreciated wine styles. It is said that Christopher Columbus brought sherry on his voyage to the New World and ironically Quady is the only producer of a dry sherry (Palomino Fino) produced in a solara system in the United States today. Sherry is often regarded as an underappreciated wine but this neglected wine treasure used to be the number-one wine in the United States. This Columbus Day weekend we will give our Palomino Fino the much-deserved spotlight in our tasting room. Join us for a special journey with Quady's Palomino Fino (Amontillado-style Sherry), Starboard (port) and sweet wines Oct. 8 - 10, 12 pm to 4:30 pm.
