Tribal culture on display in North Fork

Tribal culture will be celebrated during the annual Indian Fair Days and Pow Wow in North Fork August 6 and 7.

The yearly event is put on by the Sierra Mono Indian Museum, one of the few tribally-operated museums in the United States. The event showcases tribal heritage with ceremonial dances, tribal art, music and food.

Concerts in the Park in Madera

Madera County Arts Council
The popular Concerts in the Park series in Madera continues in August with some fun acts taking place in the Allen Harkins' Amphitheater at Lions Town and Country Park. 

August 7, Flamenco Jucal is performing while Baloney Creek is featured August 21. The Yard Dogs perform September 11 followed by the surprise local performers in Madera's Got Talent September 18.

Bring your lawn chair or beach blanket and prepare for good tunes and good times. Visit the Madera County Arts Council website for more information.


 

Car shows in California's Gateway to Yosemite

Chowchilla, Oakhurst show off the autos

 

A pair of car shows are coming up in California's Gateway to Yosemite.

The first is September 9 and 10 in Oakhurst. The Oakhurst Kiwanis have made a name for themselves with the annual Run for the Gold Car Show taking place at Oakhurst Community Center.

Then on September 17, classic and pony cars, trucks and more will be rumbling in to Chowchilla for the annual Chowchilla Classic Car Show. The free event takes place at Veteran's Memorial Park.

Summer Lawn Party at Birdstone Winery 
Birdstone Winery be grooving to the sounds of the HR7 band from 6-10pm and pouring your favorite wines and introducting some new ones for you to try! Fridays at Fresno Flats continue August 12 

Fresno Flats will host Randy Bolt, Ranger from California State Mining and Mineral Museum at Mariposa Friday, August 12. Bolt will speak on the future of this museum which is slated to close next year. He will present a Powerpoint film featuring the unique mineral displays and its value to the culture of the Oakhurst area. A light dinner will be available before the program at 5:30. Admission is $5.00. Madera Wine Trail to celebrate California Wine Month 

The Madera Vintners Association will host "California Wine Month Reception & Wine Tasting" in honor of California Wine Month, on September 16, 2011. Guests are invited to visit Birdstone Winery in Madera to enjoy wine tasting from over 10 local wineries, appetizers created and provided by excellent local restaurants, a catered light dinner and live music.

Quady Winery Club Party August 6 

Spirits are flying high at Quady Winery as they prepare for their 3rd annual Club Quady party August 6th from 3pm to 6pm.  Join Andrew and Laurel Quady, winemaker Michael Blaylock, and the Quady Crew for an afternoon of WINE, FOOD, MUSIC and just plain old FUN.  It's your chance to meet Quady wine lovers and mix up a few new wine cocktails of your own at the blending station hosted by Michael Crockett, the winery mixologist and weekend tasting room host. There will be an array of appetizers and edibles by The Vineyard Restaurant as well as a dessert station of sweet treats.
Quady has a fantastic band this year--Fresno UnderCover! Fresno UnderCover is a variety cover band located in Central California. Their music ranges from the 70's to current hits, lots of 80's rock, disco, country and blues. They play music that will get you up on the floor dancing!!

Timberline Gallery shows Yosemite Impressions 

As our Patrons know, Timberline Gallery exhibits 31 of the most outstanding artists in California. The current show, Yosemite Impressions, completely fills the featured artist area and extends throughout most of the gallery. The show represents a cross-section of work from all the members. In addition to the stunning gallery display, the front window is resplendent with lovely pieces of hand-made jewelry suspended from manzanita branches and snuggled amongst Fresno river rocks, driftwood and sand. We can honestly say, "Timberline rocks!"

  

Westbrook Wine Farm announces "Private Pairings"  

  Westbrook Wine Farm Vineyard and Winery has announced its association with local Artisan Chef Kristin Burdick in the pairing of their wines with custom-created edibles for private tastings of up to sixteen people at the winery.

  

"Although this is nothing new for high end wineries in northern California, it is unique in our area and has received a very positive response from serious wine and food lovers", said co-proprietor, Ray Krause who shares winegrowing and winemaking duties with his wife, Tammy.

The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad has several special events in August. The Moonlight Special Runs each Wednesday and Saturday where you enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner cooked right there next to the historic steam engines. After dinner, ride through the cool mountain air and then enjoy campfire songs at the picnic area.  On August 21 is the Moonlight Melodrama.
