North Fork Indian Fair Days this weekend 40th Annual Pow Wow
The 40th Annual Indian Fair Days and Pow
Wow is set for August 7 and 8 and North Fork. Ivory Gardner performs a fancy shawl dance during the 2009 Indian Fair Days Pow Wow in North Fork. This year's event is August 7 and 8.
 | A
Pow Wow is traditionally defined as a gathering of North
America's Native people. The word is a derivation of the
Narragansett powwaw, meaning spiritual leader. Pow Wows historically have
different purposes for different tribes, however they are generally for the
gathering and sharing of unique tribal cultures in contemporary times.
The
Pow Wow will feature dance competitions, food and craft vendors displaying
various tribal art, food and other items. Additionally, the Sierra Mono
Museum will host a
culture booth offering information on traditional arts with Elders. Festival
attendees will have the chance to sample Acorn, a traditional dish and staple
food of the Mono, or enjoy it as a meal starting at 5pm for a $7 donation.
