 | If you're looking for somewhere fun to go for Fourth of July celebrations, then look no further than Madera County: California's Gateway to Yosemite. Numerous events are set for the entire county.
One of the most well known celebrations is the annual fireworks display over Bass Lake. Nothing is more American than a summer day at the lake followed by a big fireworks show. There's not a bad seat in the house, from the shore or the water, to see this impressive annual display. The numerous businesses around Bass Lake will also have special events including live music and more. Visit the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce website to learn more.
The show is happening this year thanks to hard work and generous help from Anakenesis Technologies, who helped replace the aging dock from which the fireworks were launched. Anakenesis owner Jim Forster and staff helped find an affordable and durable all aluminum dock, and even helped assemble it once it arrived.
The Annual North Fork Loggers Jamboree actually takes place July 3 and 4th. This long running event has been a popular stop for 50 years. There will be contests, BBQs, balls and much more. For more information, call (559) 877-7700.
Oakhurst is celebrating with the second annual Freedom Fest. The purpose of the event is to honor the military, while enjoying patriotic music and hearing from interesting speakers, a historic drama and more. There will also be food vendors and children's activities.
Madera is hosting a celebration as well. The 4th of July Spectacular takes place at the Madera Municipal Golf Course starting at 5 pm. The family friendly event will include music, food, kids activities, games for the whole family and a fireworks show at 8 pm.

Farm fresh Farmers markets around Madera County Farmer's markets promise the best in fresh fruits and vegetables and other local offerings.
 |
Madera County has a rich tradition in farming. The valley is part of one of the most fertile farming regions in the country, with the fruits, vegetables and nuts grown there and throughout Madera County sold at farmers markets in the region.
One of the largest farmer's markets is located in Madera every Thursday evening. Located in Courthouse Park at the steps of the historic Madera Courthouse which is now the Madera County Museum, just about any seasonal item grown in the region can be found. The market opens at 4 pm and runs until 6:30 pm. For more information, call (559) 661-5155.
On Wednesdays the goodies can be found at popular vacation spot Bass Lake in the Pines Village. Locally grown berries and other fruits, vegetables, honey and more are all available. Live entertainment rounds out the experience. To be kept up to date on the latest offerings, become a fan on their Facebook page.
Another great chance to sample local produce is at one of the numerous fruitstands that dot Madera County. One of the most popular is the Sumner Peck Ranch Fruit Stand on Highway 41 in Madera. A popular stop along the main route in to Yosemite, they offer numerous local vegetables, fruits, nuts, cheeses and more.
Other fruitstands can be found at: West of Hwy 99 & North of Avenue 24 (Strawberry Stand) North Side of Highway 145 & Avenue 15 1/2 (Strawberry Stand) Northeast Corner of Avenue 12 & Hwy 145 Southwest corner of Avenue 9 & Road 33 1/2 (West of Santa Fe railroad tracks) East of Road 25 & south of Avenue 11 West of Highway 41 & south of Avenue 14 (Strawberry Stand) 33588 Avenue 12 SE Corn Avenue 12 & Road 32 Oakhurst Fruit Stand at 40842 Highway 41
