Birds of BallenIsles
The island between the 2nd and 12th holes on the East Golf Course is a unique gift to the BallenIsles community. It has been a nesting site long before any homes appeared at BallenIsles and continues to be a source of wonder. Nest building and breeding usually starts in January and February with young being reared from March through May. The earlier breeding occurs the better chance the young birds have to survive.
Bird Island is an important breeding place for the endangered and federally protected wood stork as well as great egrets, great blue herons, snowy egrets, cattle egrets, green herons, tri-colored herons, blue herons, Egyptian geese, cormorants, anhingas and many kinds of ducks.
