MMP has planned a comprehensive and strategic lineup of events, public awareness opportunities, media placements and program opportunities for National Mentoring Month 2012. This statewide campaign is a terrific opportunity for everyone in the mentoring field to celebrate the everyday people who make a difference for young people in their communities.

Here's what you can look forward to from MMP:
Throughout January: ads, created in-kind by CTP and supported by Staples and First Niagara, running in various print and online media placements around the state, and encouraging businesses to get involved in mentoring in a variety of ways. PSAs featuring inspiring local match stories will also run on television networks and cable channels throughout the state.
Jan. 11: "I am a Mentor" social media day. Join other mentors and programs from around the country and inspire others to learn about mentoring and how they can make a difference.
Jan. 16: MLK Day of Service hosted by the Highland Street Corps Ambassadors of Mentoring. This year the group is collecting 5,000 travel-size items to include in 500 hygiene kits, which will be distributed to organizations serving homeless individuals in Lawrence and Worcester. Donations and volunteers are greatly appreciated. Make this a day on, not off!
Jan 19: Youth Mentoring Day at the State House, an annual program recognizing state legislators. The 2nd Annual Ignite Awards will be presented to a mentor, program staff and business for their impact on mentoring. Bring your matches and help us show our legislators that the mentoring field is vibrant and strong!
RFPs to host an Ambassador due Jan. 27
The 2011-12 Ambassadors
Don't miss an excellent opportunity to expand your program's reach! The Highland Street Corps Ambassadors of Mentoring are AmeriCorps members placed at mentoring programs and youth-serving organizations statewide to help capacity-build in a variety of areas. MMP is accepting Letters of Intent to host an Ambassador until Jan. 27. In January, staff from MMP will conduct regional TA sessions throughout the state in order to assist programs with the application process. If you're looking to increase your program's quality or scope, then hosting an Ambassador may be right for you. For questions, please contact Mallory St. Brice, program manager, at mstbrice@massmentors.org.
Help build our corps of mentor advocates
Budget season is right around the corner, and mentors are excellent advocates to communicate the need for increased funding dedicated to mentoring programs. Please email this note to your mentors and help us generate a strong group of mentors who can help us spread the word! For questions, contact Elena Sokolow-Kaufman at eskaufman@massmentors.org.
