Northeast Regional Mentoring Conference
A Success!

Nearly 240 participants attended the Northeast Regional Mentoring Conference on October 13th and 14th in Framingham. This year's theme "Mentoring for Impact" was felt throughout the conference. The pre-conference included talk's from Larry Wright, President and CEO of MENTOR, Dr. Renee Spencer on Emerging Trends for the Future of Mentoring and a panel discussion on funding for youth mentoring including representatives from the Governor's Prevention Partnership, Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership, BNY Mellon and State Street.

The full day session started with a discussion from Dr. Jean Rhodes and Dr. Renee Spencer on key research findings on the impact of mentoring. The day then consisted of 18 presentations on targeted populations, peer mentoring, research and evaluation, academic-focused mentoring/school-based programs and innovative program models, as well as a lunchtime panel of mentors and mentees from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass and Stand and Deliver and a presentation of support to Webster Bank, the presenting sponsor of the conference. The day ended with inspiring words from "Dr. Mentor" Susan Weinberger.

National Mentoring Month 2012
save-the-dates
  • Jan. 16: 2nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Make MLK Day a day on and not a day off. The Highland Street Ambassadors of Mentoring will organize an event to provide mentees, mentors and friends with an opportunity to serve together and learn about honoring Dr. King's legacy of service.
  • Jan. 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The 6th Annual Youth Mentoring Day at the State House. The event will galvanize more than 200 supporters of mentoring including program staff, mentors, mentees, and legislators. We will award the 2nd Annual Ignite Award, which recognizes mentors and program staff who have gone above and beyond to expand or strengthen mentoring in their program and/or community.

Stay tuned for more information about NMM 2012, including MMP's public awareness plans and how to order the new collateral with the theme, "Invest in the future. Mentor a child."
