MMP successfully secures funding for
2011-12 Highland Street Corps
Ambassadors program

Last February, amid federal budget cuts, the AmeriCorps budget was reduced by more than $30 million dollars. Because of this, MMP initially was not awarded another three-year grant to operate our AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring program. However, we are extraordinarily grateful to the Massachusetts Service Alliance for awarding formula funding to operate the Ambassadors program for the 2011-12 service year. Combined with the continued generous support of the Highland Street Foundation, our Ambassadors program will place at least 16 members at mentoring programs throughout Massachusetts, and place two members at MMP's Boston office. Mass Mentoring is excited for the fourth year of this important capacity building program.

State gives more money for mentoring

Last week, Gov. Patrick approved the final FY12 state budget and included the Mentoring Matching Grants line item (7061-9634) at $250,000, the highest it's been funded in two years. Because of this increase in funding, MMP was able to award almost twice the amount of state Mentoring Matching Grants than what was awarded the last two years. Furthermore, the maximum award was also increased. This is a great victory for the field of mentoring to see a larger financial commitment from the state in these economic times. Thank you to all those who advocated for this important line item!
