National Mentoring Month highlights

National Mentoring Month 2011
was one of the most exciting ever!  High points from the month include:

Youth Mentoring Day at the State House: More than 200 people YMD 2011turned out to show their support of youth mentoring in Massachusetts. Led by our Highland Street Ambassadors of Mentoring, and in collaboration with the Massachusetts Service Alliance, the event honored key legislators, as well as mentoring staff and mentors with the inaugural Ignite Award.

Mentoring Night with the Celtics: In conjunction with the Celtics and Highland Street Foundation, this event brought together 100 mentors and mentees from programs selected by the HSF for a fun and memorable night at TD Garden.

Youth Mentoring Forum: With an event focus on the latest mentoring Forum 2011research (from the initial results of Mass Mentoring Counts 2010) and mentoring's impact on student success, audience members were educated and inspired by guest speakers, including Massachusetts Secretary of Education Paul Reville and Boston City Councilor At-Large Ayanna Pressley.

MLK Day of Service: Our Highland Street Ambassadors of Mentoring made 300 hygiene kits for distribution to three homeless shelters across Massachusetts.

Public awareness: Thanks in part to Staples, Inc.'s support of our extensive statewide public awareness campaign, our website received on average 100% more visitors than a regular month, and we distributed 142 referrals to 40 programs around the state. Check out the variety of mentoring stories covered in the news, as well as some NMM events held by programs, on our National Mentoring Month news and highlights page.
