| MMP selected as official charity of Boston Athletic Association® |
We are honored and thrilled to have been selected as an official charity of the B.A.A. for the 115th Boston Marathon®, which will be held April 18, 2011. We are looking for 15 runners to join our Marathon team. This is an amazing opportunity for devoted runners to participate in one of the most prestigious running races in the world while expanding quality youth mentoring in Massachusetts.
To be a part of the MMP Boston Marathon® team, runners must: - Be at least 18 years of age;
- Be capable of completing the Marathon in less than six hours;
- Raise a minimum of $3,250; and
- Comply with the terms and conditions listed in the application
The selection process to be chosen as an official B.A.A. charity is highly competitive, with more than 100 nonprofits applying every year. There are eight "legacy" charities and 18 non-legacy charities, with six of those spots becoming free every year. Once accepted, non-profits receive guaranteed Marathon entries for three years. This is a tremendous opportunity to drive awareness and resources for the youth mentoring movement.

"Waiting for Superman" provides platform to discuss importance of quality mentoring
|
The highly anticipated documentary "Waiting for Superman," which highlights challenges in the nation's education system, officially premiered in Boston on Sept. | | Image from "Waiting for Superman" |
27, and a post-premiere panel discussion helped emphasize to an audience of more than 100 that mentoring can play an essential role in helping ensure that all students have an opportunity to succeed.
MMP has been playing and will continue to play an important role in the ongoing social action campaign around the film. Coordinating with lead local Boston partners United Way and Stand for Children, we are highlighting mentoring as a critical community action for helping kids excel in school. This is an extension of national partnerships led by MENTOR and highlighted in its newest tool, Academic Achievement Through Mentoring.
President & CEO David Shapiro participated on the post-premiere panel, which was moderated by UMass Boston Chancellor Keith Motley.
David told the audience, "Use our great nonprofits in Boston to find a way to be helpful in schools. Get to know kids, families and schools through mentoring and be a part of the solution. Consistent, caring adults are the ultimate assets."

Team MMP helps achieve record-setting Rodman Ride for Kids
| The 20th Rodman Ride for Kids was another hugely successful event, and members of Team MMP were part of a large effort to raise more than $250,000 in support of | | Riders from Team MMP |
quality youth mentoring in Massachuestts, surpassing our original goal and qualifying MMP for a 10 percent match from the Rodman Ride.
Special thank-you to MMP board member Ed Gregory, staffers Felipe Suarez, Linda Peterson, Katie Stebbins and Elena Sokolow-Kaufman and several of their spouses and friends for riding and inspiring others to rally to the cause.
We also owe an enormous thank-you to the corporate teams from Liberty Mutual and Bank of America who rode in support of MMP's mission. We are also proud that AFC Mentoring and Generations Inc. assembled teams under MMP's umbrella, and each organization's team raised more than $10,000.
Despite reaching our goal, we'd love to raise even more! Thankfully, it's not too late to support our team. Donations are still being accepted through Nov. 30 and we sincerely thank you in advance for any aid you can provide to the youth of Massachusetts. Donate now!
