Cabral promotes mentoring as youth violence
prevention strategy

After the area's most recent wave of youth violence, Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral - who has long touted mentoring as an

effective prevention strategy - reached out to her media contacts, and invited MMP President and CEO David Shapiro to join her in discussing the importance of mentoring the youth in our community.

Together, Sheriff Cabral and David appeared on Jim Braude's Broadside show on NECN and Emily Rooney's talk show on WGBH.

Rosenberg's quick action leads to increased mentoring funding in Senate budget

The Massachusetts Senate released their FY 11 budget recommendation the day before the Champions breakfast, and included funding
Sen. Rosenberg at

for mentoring at $100,000. Sen. Stan Rosenberg immediately filed an amendment to include mentoring at $250,000, the level that the Legislature had funded the line item prior to the Governor's veto last year. This amendment was co-sponsored by Senators Sal DiDomenico, Jack Hart, Anthony Petruccelli, Karen Spilka, and Susan Tucker.

Thanks to the collective, swift action of our programs and their networks, who rallied their own senators to sign onto the amendment, Sen. Rosenberg's heroic efforts led to the Senate funding mentoring funding at $250,000, a notable - yet not final - victory with two more steps remaining in the budgeting process.
