Mentoring Night, Champions Breakfast highlight powerful day of mentoring
Mentoring Night at Fenway Park The sun was shining and the air was comfortably warm, a pleasant way to kick off Mentoring Night! Last night's MNF 2010 was once again a special night for hundreds of mentors and mentees from across Massachusetts, who experienced the thrill of a Red Sox game. Several pairs of mentors and mentees from around the state even participated in pre-game activities, such as tossing the ceremonial first pitch.
We have a few pictures from the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston matches and will have the rest online next week - stay tuned!
Champions of Mentoring Breakfast MMP's sixth annual Champions of Mentoring Breakfast, held yesterday in the State Street Pavilion at Fenway, brought together 350 people who helped us honor leading champions of mentoring: Suffolk County Andrea Cabral, President of the Rodman Ride for Kids, Don Rodman, and State Sen. Stan Rosenberg.
Additionally, we were proud to grant educational awards to Demetrius Lester from Boston Scholars and AJ Graziano, Jr. from Partners for Youth With Disabilities, who each received the $5,000 KELLY award, and Staci Davidson from Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, who was awarded the $5,000 Connolly Award, the inaugural award from the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund in honor of our late board chair. All three were selected through a competitive process administered by an external review committee.
With special appearances from AL MVP Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins, and Red Sox Manager Terry Francona and Pitching Coach John Farrell, the event's proceeds will help expand quality mentoring throughout the state.

Free match activites!Win a free match activity Throughout May, Piccadilly Pub is donating $1 to Mass Mentoring for every Berry Crumble (from their "Spring Fest" menu) sold, and we will use that money to give your program a free match activity! Here's how to participate:
We are holding a Piccadilly Pub Photo Facebook contest for mentors and mentees, in which the match must create a visual representation of their mentoring relationship and then upload the corresponding image or photo to our Facebook Fan Page.
The winning photo(s) will be selected by MMP staff, and the winning match's mentoring program will win a free small-scale match activity for their matches! The winning match(es) will also have their winning photo(s) on display at a Piccadilly Pub closest to them for the month of June! See our Facebook page for more details.
Highland Street Free Fun Fridays returns The "Free Fun Fridays" program invites Massachusetts residents and tourists to visit for free a designated museum or attraction over 10 Fridays this summer. The program launched for the first time in the summer of 2009, and many of our mentors, mentees and program staff really enjoyed all the activities. Check out the fun activities you and your matches can look forward to!
