Amendment filed to increase
funding for mentoring

Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli of Lenox, along with 16 other co-sponsors, filed Amendment #387 to increase state funding from $100,000 to $250,000 for the Mentoring Matching Grants line item (7061-9634) for FY 2011.

While we are just in the beginning of the budget process, receiving this level of support is a great accomplishment for the field and speaks to your continued efforts, not only to advocate for this critical funding but to deepen relationships with your elected officials.

Find out if your state representative signed onto the amendment and how you can help make sure more funding is made available to mentoring programs.

Are you taking advantage of the National Youth Mentoring Network database?

Enrolling or updating your mentoring program's profile in the National Youth Mentoring Network (NYMN) at MMP's website will help you recruit more mentors and greatly increase visibility for your organization.

Hundreds of prospective volunteers visit the site each month to access the NYMN database and find mentoring opportunities in their community. In 2009, the NYMN connected more than 200 potential mentors with Massachusetts programs.

Need help recruiting more male mentors?
Are you inadvertently closing the doors on men as mentors? Are you screening out instead of screening in? Are your messages getting men to self-select out prematurely during your screening process?

On May 12, MMP is proud to present a special workshop on the overt and inadvertent messages youth mentoring programs may be sending to men during the recruitment and screening processes. John Pearson will lead this session. Learn more and RSVP to attend.
