 Senate restores funding to
Mentoring Line Item

Late Thursday night the Senate passed its budget for FY 2010 and restored the Mentoring Line Item (7061-9634) to $517,320, available to mentoring programs through the statewide RFP process administered by the Massachusetts Service Alliance.

This victory was due in large part to the heroic efforts of Senate mentoring champions, Sen. Stan Rosenberg, who led the charge; and Sen. Jack Hart and Sen. Susan Tucker, who signed on to the amendment that kept mentoring programs a budget priority for the Commonwealth. This also would not have been possible without the impressive collective action shown by all of the mentoring programs that responded each and every time MMP asked for help and mobilized constituents.

In the next phase of the budget process, House and Senate leadership assign members to a "conference committee" to negotiate the differences between the House and Senate bills.  Stay tuned for the next action alert as the process unfolds.
