A PERSONAL NOTE
Hi, Months of busyness have tapered down to a calm, leaving me with the odd feeling of being in a limbo between projects and endeavors. I'm usually swamped with many irons in the fire at once, and I'm finding this lull to be enjoyable as well as disconcerting. The unpacking is done, and my household tasks are minimal. Semi-retirement can be calm and peaceful, and fairly creative, but the thrill of the over-scheduled, over-pressurized lifestyle is missing. Is that something to be bothered by? Delighted in? Indifferent to?
What would a Zen Master do?
Zen masters are always in the moment. Zen mastery, by definition, means transcending discontent. It means being one with the flow. If the flow is rushing and torrential, requiring a rapidity of your dance, then so be it. But if the flow is meandering quietly, with little to do other than just be, so be that! We bring expectations, emotions, and too much thought into our days and hours.
I know my task isn't complete; there are loose ends that still must be knitted and woven into a fabric of perception and communication that I'm here to share and convey, but at the moment this tapestry is just a bunch of loose ends. Maybe it's like the skein of the past is done, laid aside, and now I'm looking at threads of creative possibilities that are just waiting for a brilliant right idea, the inspirational surge, the correct moment on the calendar and clock, and the support system of people that will help me gather everything up and set it once again in motion. It's my nature to accomplish; I was not given the personality of anything else.
These are pressured times. No matter what's happening in your life, it's a good time - maybe the perfect time - to stop and just abide. I won't be banal and say, Look within, or Meditate, or Connect with your higher self. Just be. Be you. But take a moment to hang out with yourself... getting to know you, befriending your own self.

Book Review: "ONLY LOVE IS REAL: A Story of Soulmates Reunited", by Brian Weiss, M.D. (Warner Books)
Psychiatrist and hypnotherapist Brian Weiss struggled with the issue of intervention when, during pastlife regression sessions in his office, he came across two unrelated clients, "Elizabeth" and "Pedro", whose unfolding journeys revealed to him, and him alone, that they were each others' yearned-for soulmates. Should he breach patient-doctor confidentiality? Or should he just allow them to part ways forever, never given the chance to reunite?
By the title of this book, the outcome is a foregone conclusion, but the means by which the dilemma is solved is interesting, and goes to the concept of Destiny. One could also term this, Soul Agreements. Weaving in each of their case histories, as well as other patients', we learn the real meaning of "soulmates" - the lessons to be learned, the repetitious entanglements of differing yet always powerful relationships, and the panorama of lives shared over long eons. By now, due to much similar material in this genre, readers are probably familiar with the process of using hypnosis to extract information about phobias, chronic diseases, and romantic suffering through pastlife regression therapy. In the case of the main couple, a poignant story of frustration and suffering throughout multiple roles and many ages is depicted. But their struggle, of course, has a very happy ending.
However, the soul love story is not the only thing going on throughout this book. In the course of regressing certain patients, Dr Weiss discovers that a few have the natural ability under hypnosis to become channels for a higher intelligence. As described, the random patient who is so gifted might suddenly bring forth a profound wisdom message during which the voice slows and deepens, and the room "grows cold". Here is one such: "'God is one,' she began. She struggled for words. 'It is all one vibration, one energy. The only difference is the rate of vibration.... Love breaks down the barriers and creates unity.'"
As I was reading, messages of this type felt very familiar to me because they are of the same quality and purpose as those I receive from my spirit guides, The Brotherhood of Light Workers. They are all our professors, educating us and bringing us awake.
Finally, each chapter is prefaced by a beautiful appropriate quote illustrating how many famous notables over the years have reached essentially the same realizations about reincarnation, cycles of life after life, and spiritual awakening that are portrayed here. I really liked this book, and heartily recommend it. Besides, it's a great love story! What a terrific movie it would make!

EMOTIONS: YOUR INSTRUMENT
We speak now of emotion.
When spirits soar, emotion is high. High emotion lifts one into a place named bliss - a feeling that is expansive, whole, without care, joyful, lighted and blessed. It is greatly desirable, and the condition of those who live on planet Earth is to continually aspire towards a blissful period, an emotional high, a joyful, buoyant, happy experience that leaves a delicious residue and is always sought after.
The condition of bliss or emotional perfection is not lasting; it is a temporary condition always to be pursued and never able to be captured and tamed for as long as the person's consciousness dwells in standard, everyday life, for in that latter state discontent always intrudes and limitation is always in the forefront. This is because the human being is designed to strive, to be continuously propelled. It is for the animal kingdom to be content, to reside in momentary satisfaction without motivation other than hunger or survival. But humans are gifted with a particular and distinct trait: the ability to feel, to react to the condition of one's life.
The lowest form of emotion is not hatred or loathing; it is paralysis, apathy, despair. It is the removal of motivation. One's creative urges can then not even conceive of an avenue of release, but can only remain trapped in a seemingly unending round of darkness. This, too, is a condition only encountered by the human being, for no dog ever feels this way, no rat ever experiences total despair. No bug, no mammal ever feels this total removal of hope.
So if it is only for the human to be able to range between such extremes of emotion, from complete catatonic apathy to utter bliss, it is also within the capability of the human to be aware of this gift and its stretch. And not only to be aware of it, but to learn how to play with it.
We are saying, emotions are your instrument. Emotions have many octaves. You have been left to believe that you are impotent in your response to experience, and to the harmonious or disharmonious impact it registers upon you, and that you are being played emotionally by life, when the opposite is true - that you are the player of the instrument, and have the capacity to plunk your emotional notes in whatever range you choose. You are the harpist; you are the flutist; you are the bass player; and you are the ariatic singer.
What has happened to you today? What notes do you wish to reverberate within that experience? How long will your vibrato linger? Is it a blue note? Is it cheery? Is it soaring, powerful, dynamic and beauteous? You can choose.
Emotions are your gift. The human being can learn to be the maestro. That's truly what emotions are. You control your world. You are the master of your life. You are the instrument of feelings, but you are not their impotent victim.

OCTOBER 2011 ASTRO TIDBITS
During the remainder of 2011 until November 9th, America remains vulnerable and economically weak (Neptune retrograde in Aquarius making its final station on the Sibley Moon), yet prospects are far from dim as recovery looms (Pluto opposite U.S. Jupiter, sextile U.S. progressed Sun). Both hidden alliances and a revitalized media can be instrumental in the pressured recovery (Pluto rules H12 from H2; Jupiter is from H7; and progressed Sun is residing in H3). Truths must be reported! There'll be a profound change in the national style which will affect how others see us (Pluto in H1 opposite H7).
At first, blockages and hampering are experienced, making the pull-out of the war effort very difficult (Saturn conjunct progressed Mars), but at the same time a resurgence of macho at the box office can boost America's confidence (Mars conjunct U.S. Node in Leo, squared by transititng Jupiter). The end of the first week elicits serious but gloomy talk (Mercury conjunct Saturn), but is nevertheless a sweet period for romance and idealism (Venus conjunct Neptune). The second week brings a conservative and realistic evaluation for sensible new starts (Sun conjunct Saturn; Full Moon in Aries opposite Saturn), with much attention to Afghanistan and the MidEast but also to our own needs (Full Moon in H4 opposite U.S. progressed Mars in H10). Offsetting the sobriety, October 15th indicates a tendency to splurge or live large (Venus opposite Jupiter). Mid-month is not good for morale (Saturn opposite U.S. Solar Arc Moon in H10) - we won't feel heroic regardless of what is portrayed onscreen. The second half of October is very favorable for growth, alliances, and new opportunities (New Moon conjunct Jupiter; Jupiter retrograde sextile U.S. Jupiter, sextile U.S. progressed Sun). We are all starting to become patient and smart regarding long-term goals (Mars sextile Saturn) - an aspect of maturity. We are recognizing that we must work hard to recapture prosperity (New Moon in Scorpio conjunct progressed U.S. Saturn exact in H11). There is much involvement with foreign affairs, legislation, education, and governmental matters (Mars in U.S. H9); however, as the great drama comes to a close, the time is ripe for the clean-up to begin (progressed Ascendant into Virgo). October 27th is not advised for smooth relationship progress (Venus square Mars). The month ends with an excellent pattern to support economic recovery (Jupiter retrograde trine Pluto). President Obama is facing a long period of weakness, turbulence and confusion which is not good for his career or image (Neptune retrograde square Midheaven, opposite progressed Uranus, chart ruler). A karmic pattern is culminating that will cause suffering (progressed Moon at 29 Pisces). Beginning next month and lasting at least through next summer, many dark secrets of his own doing can be forced into view (Saturn square natal Saturn in H12, ruling H12).
