A PERSONAL NOTE
Hi,
I don't know about anyone else, but I found this summer to be an enjoyable and very sociable period. There's a lot of things in our economy, our environment, our political scene, and on the world stage that are not going right but people's interactions, loving closeness, and desire to connect seem to be increasing. Is that a coincidence?
We're in the middle of the four year period leading up to 2012, sometimes called The End Times, or End of Days - a time that was described ad nauseum as doomsday-ish and catastrophic. Because of all those descriptions, I kind of figured life on Planet Earth would get pretty severe, and truth be told, it is still such in many parts of the planet. But heart energy is also expanding as challenges increase. And heart energy means love - between people, for those suffering, and for one's family and friends. So, is it also part of the plan that, as we cope with hate, negativity, and other dumb behavior, we're also given the gift of supporting ourselves, helping each other, reaching out, embracing our friends, and enjoying the camaraderie of the human race?
I think so.
Anyhow, that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Book Review: "Hand of Isis",
Jo Graham (Orbit Books)
This a pleasant novel set in Cleopatra's court, told in the voice of one of her two handmaidens/half-sisters, Charmian, a beauty who is dedicated to her role as Companion to her sister/queen.
I was attracted to it as summer reading not only because the author has handled many historical characters - from Alexander the Great through Julius Caesar and Marc Antony - as real human beings living momentous lives, but by the manner in which Cleopatra and her two fascinating Companions recognize and inhabit their roles as significators of the goddess Isis - politically, romantically, and religiously.
One of these ways is to present interludes of between-life councils in which Charmian, the soul that chose the task of being Companion to Cleopatra, is being gently judged by higher beings in the Egyptian tradition; she explains her acts and choices in each case, exhibiting remorse yet acceptance of the inevitable. This device carries a thread acknowledging reincarnational lifetimes at the same time that it displays many elements of ancient Egyptian theology.
This novel is spiritual, metaphysical and interesting. It's probably more chick-lit than universally appealing, but it has enough good research and wonderful portrayal of the humanness of historical figures to be quite readable.
My only caveat was a rather gratuitous scene of sexual specifics for a menage-a-trois between Charmian and two guys that did not even involve Cleopatra. I'm not a big fan of the introduction of any kind of porn in a storyline in which it's not essential to further the plot. The author claims it serves to illustrate alternate lifestyles in other cultures of the time, but even so, were all the graphic details needed? (I'm not a prude! In the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series, the disturbing graphic sex scenes were absolutely essential to the plot line.)
RECOMMENDATION: A fun read with an overtone of wisdom.

TIME & THE WEATHER:
ALIGNMENT TOOLS
Time and the weather! It
seems so inconsequential in the greater view of things to speak of such when
turmoil in our lives abounds, and we fear the trends of social and economic realities.
We dwell on the stuff of anxieties, and concentrate our energies upon issues
such as income, lovelife, health and daily realities. We are present in our
capacity to use the brain's powers for such, as makes sense, yes? But then, the mind's true abilities lie
dormant, unseen by the mind's eye because, although right there, no one's
looking.-
We speak again of time and the weather. To refocus the attention
away from life's necessities and towards the greater You means to begin to
realize the affect you may bring to bear upon larger possibilities such as the extension
of time (relativity), and the mood of your day (personal surround). Have you
noticed how time expands when you are doing the thing that you love so much
that you forget you are in time? Your mind has so expanded within its borders
that nothing intrudes, and time stretches out wondrously until there is none of
it, truly. In the reverse, there are the
moments when time compresses itself so tightly that you scramble to fit all you
"must" do into its narrow space. The reality of time, therefore, is in your
mind and not in the clock. To compress
or expand time means to learn to align yourself with your passion even as you
surrender your Will to a greater timekeeper.
Done right, this technique (a combination of understanding, patience,
faith, and organization) has you directing your given opportunity while fitting
perfectly into your day's schedule. It
is a beginner's level of mastery of your fate, but nevertheless, a truly
powerful start.
Next, the mood of the day.
Is it bleak? What does the sky look like? How affected are you by God's
mood that day? Do you wish to be in better control of your inner weather? If
successful, will the outer weather change? We suggest trying some quiet
experiment. Today's weather, whatever it
might be, might just be a perfect fit for your actual needs. It might conduce
to an altered plan. It might provide a chance to thrive in the sunshine (even
on lunch break), or go within in the rain. Nature and personhood can begin to
collaborate in this way until a new balance is reached. The weather, then,
becomes not an antagonist to you but an aid. Who knows what can result from
such as partnership!
Learning new ways to relate to the world is a great start for
inner harmony. Time and the weather are measuring devices to show you how well
you are in alignment. Enjoy the "stage
directions" of your plan.

August 2010 Astro Tidbits
For the world in general, the month of August begins with a peak of polarization, a tug of war between the forces of tradition versus the forces of progress (Saturn opposite Uranus). Anger and great tension are evident between the 4th - 5th, (Mars square Pluto). A lively period is shown on the 8th, perhaps with unexpected expenses (Venus opposite Uranus). The need to be cautious follows immediately on the 9th (Venus conjunct Saturn). Splurging returns swiftly on the 10th (Venus opposite Jupiter) along with a debut of further dramatic events (New Moon in Leo). Mid month, from August 17th- 22nd, belt-tightening is needed once more as worldwide recovery slows down (Saturn square Pluto). Plans and efforts are revisited, perhaps about a clean-up or healthcare (Mercury stations retrograde in Virgo). August 21st is a nice day for love (Venus conjunct Mars). Inspiration and hopefulness are in full flower on the 24th... but not a lot of realism (Full Moon in Pisces).
For our nation, August brings a period that is very good for planning and analysis, especially on the 20th (p Moon in Virgo sextile Mercury), but at first there's the strong chance of a double-dip recession (Saturn conjunct US Midheaven, square US Venus, ruler of 2nd). The 10th sees the spotlight on law, government, and foreign affairs (New Moon in 9th). We'll be revisiting matters pertaining to legislation, the healthcare bill, and states rights cases, probably with quite a commotion (Mercury SRx conjunct SA Pluto in 9th, square Mars). We are in an era of changes to our identity and with our financial alliances (Pluto Rx opposite US Venus, 1st to 7th). Anxiety and confusion are widespread, with people not knowing what to believe from their news media (Neptune Rx conjunct US Moon). By the second half of the month, the theme of independence strengthens through the important outlet of the internet (Uranus Rx conjunct US SA Node). By the last week, a boost in real estate can arrive (Jupiter Rx conjunct US IC; p Venus conjunct Chiron in H4) but overspending is also likely (Jupiter square Venus). On the happy side, music, art, and relationships are enjoyed (Venus and Mars in Libra 10th). An important headline about deals in the automotive or media industries can be announced on the 24th (Full Moon conjunct p Descendant in H3).
For Obama, August is replete with outworn ideals and visionary hopes (Neptune Rx conjunct South Node) but tension builds regarding plans and words (Pluto Rx quinqunx Mercury). Not until September will he be able to come at things with a fresh approach (Uranus Rx trine Midheaven), and as a consequence he faces a low in the polls by the 11th (Saturn square Venus). However, as early as the first week, he can take charge of communications and act boldly and sensibly (Mars sextile Mercury, trine Moon; Saturn sextile Mercury). Language is his forte, and by mid-month he can give a terrific speech reenergizing his base (Jupiter trine Mercury). The 10th offers a pleasant new start for likeability (New Moon conjunct Descendant/Solar Arc Venus; Venus sextile Mercury), so he can turn the energy around. He will feel more energized, luckier, and better liked by the 19th-20th (Mars and Venus sextile Sun), and will revisit details of his agenda during the latter part of the month (Mercury SRx exactly conjunct Solar Arc Mercury).
