Originally, all superheros were men. Females in comics were supporting charcters without super powers. Fortunately, superheroines now have can "pack a punch" of their own!
Here are some fun facts about superheroines:
Fantomah was the 1st known superheroine, created in 1940.
Female heros grew in popularity in the 50s with Batwoman and Supergirl.

There are many great superhero books for kids, but here two of our favorites:
- Dex: The Heart of a Superhero by Caraline Buehner: Dexter is a little dog with big dreams of becoming a superhero. With some hard work and new outfit, Dexter becomes SUPERDOG! Before he knows it, everyone is asking for his help. We love this book because it's message is that no matter how little you are, you can still do very big things.
-Noodleman: The Pasta Superhero by April Pulley Sayre: Al Dente's family owns a pasta making business. Unfortunately, business is very slow- it seems that people only want pizza. When trouble strikes, Al uses his pasta machine to conjure up silly ways to help people out and save his town.
