On the hunt for a family holiday this year?

Help is at hand with.......

Childfriendly.co.uk is a travel planning website aimed at parents, listing over 10,000 child friendly places in the UK and abroad.

Co-founder Conrad Doyle shares some of his top tips for securing the best stays in 2011:

- On a budget? Then we'd recommend a stay close to home with a UK holiday park break. If that conjures up images of tired caravan parks where the only form of entertainment is a onechild friendly lodge-arm bandit, think again. In recent years holiday parks have invested millions to shake off that image, and you can now find some stunning locations with Scandanavian type wooden lodges.

- Go all inclusive. It might cost a bit more upfront but, when you get there you can leave that wallet in the hotel room! Most of the big operators have a good selection of all inclusive holidays. Try First Choice or Thomson for mid-range packages, and Club Med if you want to go upmarket. They practically invented the term all inclusive!

childfriendly.pool- Self catering package holidays are a great way to enjoy all the facilities of a family resort, without having to eat out every night. Look for apartments that feature a kitchen or kitchenette. Here's a selection to get you started...

- Book now! The best time to book is in January and February. Not only will you get the pick of the best flights and room types, Tour Operators drop their prices at the beginning of the year in an effort to get bums on seats booked for the peak summer months!

Life Light.....helping fire fighters save your child.

How would a fire fighter find your child if your house was on fire?

The vast majority of children are found hiding in their bedrooms, but in a smoke filled house how do Fire Fighters know where to look?  They have to search every room one door at a time...Seconds can be the difference between life and death...

In dense smoke there is no way the fire fighters can know what room is the parents room, spare room, study, bathroom or even a cupboard, every door must be opened and the space searched.

Which door is the child's bedroom...?

Life Lights solve this problem. Simple & easy to fix to your child's life light imagebedroom door surround and triggered by the sound of your smoke alarms, Life Lights high intensity LED strobe shines through the smoke and guides the rescuers to where your child is most likely to be.
Tested and approved by Fire Chiefs and top industry professions Life Light costs just £22.99 and could help save your child's life in the event of a fire...

"Life Light is the Fire Fighters' North Star, providing dependable navigation to the places that matter most, when it matters most."

It's half term again - have fun whatever the weather!

The Christmas holidays certainly feel like a long time ago and with half term at last upon us, families look forward to a well-deserved break and spending some quality time together! The half terms always seems to creep up on us actually and therefore cause enormous excitement in our house and with a little planning, longer days and improving weather (we hope), it's time to get out and about and have some fun!

girl at playTake advantage of the weather and when it is dry, head off to woods, beaches or parks. Enjoy winter picnics, nature trails and games in the outdoors. Even just getting out for an hour or so will give children the chance to burn up energy and have fun. Involve their friends (and yours!) and it's even more of an adventure!

Support your local library and independent book shops - they often host fabulous children's holiday activities at little or no cost as do some museums and galleries.

Rainy day contingency plans are always essential, especially at this time of year! A trip to the cinema, soft play and activity centres (see 'Gambado' above) or the swimming pool always goes down well but staying at home also brings rewards. Got a load of birthdays approaching? Enjoy some time making cards or presents for family members. Now could be the time to enjoy simple pleasures like baking, seed planting, dressing up games, indoor camps and to re-discover board games - you may have forgotten how much fun they can be! Host a screening of your favourite film - make popcorn or ice lollies, issue tickets or invitations, draw the curtains and create an 'at home cinema' for little friends!

However you are spending half term, Monday morning comes around all too quickly so make the most of it and have fun!

little picture logoThe Little Picture Company

Searching in vain for something special with which to decorate my daughter Naia's nursery, I was amazed at how difficult it was to find one-of-a-kind images instead of the mass-produced offerings usually available on the high street. I wanted Naia to be surrounded by colours and imagery that would become focal points for our bedtime stories together, timeless pictures that I felt would feed her sense of creativity, wonder and playful imagination.

The Little Picture Company offers a magical world of art for children filled with lasting treasures to inspire your child's natural imagination. Our limited edition giclee prints are made using archival vegetable-based inks and printed on a range of environmentally friendly papers, including sustainable bamboo.

We believe that creative art for children helps them to develop imagination for life!

little picture company imageEnchanted forests, talking animals, brave princesses, rocking horses, magical dragons and star-filled night skies: just a few of the elements built into the fabric of stories and fairy tales that play such an essential part in sparking a child's imagination during their formative years.  Find aspects of all these elements brought together by The Little Picture Company's online children's picture gallery, brimming with exquisite one-off pieces, and numbered limited edition prints by our talented artists.
