Take Time Off - Head For  a Day Out!
We are so lucky in the UK to have such a wide range of fabulous places for a family day out. Now the weather is starting to warm up and a lot of these places reopen it's a great time to plan a day out with your family.

Our Mums' Network have reviewed a good range of days out from across the UK to give you a real parent's view on the facilities and fun factor. Visit our Days Out page for all the reviews.

We also have an amazing prize draw for all our newsletter subscribers to win a family weekend at Hilton St Anne's Manor nr Bracknell including tickets to Legoland and a spa treatment for Mum!

A family day out can be quite expensive but with a little planning you can reduce the cost drastically.

  • There are quite a few offers entrance tickets that's we've spotted so you can save money on your next family day out - we think the one on packets of Green's Cakes is very good as you can get tickets for several different attractions and tickets are valid until June 2011. All the details are on our Days Out page too.
  • Be flexible on the day you go if possible so if the weather is really bad you can reschedule and avoid a soggy and miserable day.
  • Visit the venue on line first to print a map, check facilities and plan your day so you see everything you want to and make the most of your visit.
  • Pack a picnic as most venues allow you to bring your own food and provide picnic benches and sometime undercover areas.
  • Avoid pester power by giving older children pocket money for the day so they can spend it on extras like icecream or save it for a small toy from the gift shop.

You may also be interested to know that Woburn Safari Park are offering a very special entrance fee. On Thursday 20th May, the actual 40th birthday of Woburn Safari Park, visitors who have pre-booked through the on-line ticketing system can enter the park for just £1 per person.£1 tickets will be offered on a first come, first served basis and will be limited to six per transaction.

Tickets will go on sale on Thursday 6th May 2010.  For further info take a look here

Nervous about trying something new?

There is an amazing selection of classes that you could choose for your child. From song, to drama, dance and gymnastics, below are a few tips to make getting your child involved a little easier.

All children vary in their rate of development in each area

- movement, communication and getting along with others - so every class and activity will bring something diffferent to each child. It's important, not to expect more of your child than he is yet capable of, or it's just frustrating for both of you.Toddler Gym

The options for new activities are endless, have you thought about dance, drama, art or signing? All of these will give your child new experiences and build confidence.

It's important to respect your child's feelings. Don't make fun of their fears or worries, starting a new class can often be a challenge. Be understanding and comforting, you'll find, too, that your child will have more understanding of how other people think and feel if you take this route. And because he can think about others more, he can cooperate better, and play simple games in small groups.

Encourage your child to try new things.
But don't push a child beyond his limits. An activity may seem very ordinary and easy to you, but your child may not be ready for it. Listen to your child, especially when he's scared. Don't force him into an activity because you want to do it, or because you see other children doing it.

Praise and encourage attempts to try new things and to deal with frustrating situations. The development of self-esteem is prevented or damaged when parents don't praise their children. Let them know how well they are doing at their new class.

DragonHow to Train Your Dragon 3D (cert PG), is the enchanting new tale of discovery and friendship coming to cinema screens everywhere from March 31. To celebrate its launch we're giving you the chance to win exclusive merchandise from the film.

From the studio that brought you "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda"comes "How to Train Your Dragon"-a comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centres around a Viking teenager named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen's smarts and offbeat sense of humour don't sit too well with his tribe or its chief...who just happens to be Hiccup's father (Gerrard Butler). However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down, and what started out as Hiccup's one shot to prove himself turns into an opportunity to set a new course for the future of the entire tribe.

Five lucky winners will receive exclusive merchandise from the 2010 film release including a Viking helmet and the Night Fury kite, perfect for modern-day dragon slayers. To enter click here

Get Crafty! Have fun.
Crafty

Here's a simple crafty project that appeals to children of all ages. It's simple and looks good too so the children can be proud enough of their artistic endeavours to want to frame them. You can use old scraps of fabric (including clothes that no longer fit etc). Sew or glue the scraps on to calico, card paper and make these pretty scrappy bird pictures.
