4 Little Ones |
Making a big Splash with Splish Splosh!
Splish Splosh Swimming School celebrated its 4th Anniversary earlier this year and have
expanded into over 41 locations across Yorkshire, Lincolnshire,
Humberside, Lancashire and Essex ! They have over 40 of the best
swimming teachers working for them across the region delivering over 276
classes to over 1100 babies, children and adults.
Vicky Pettitt, the founder, has been a Swimming Teacher since 1997 and her passion is swimming. She feels that everyone should be able to have the opportunity of developing the skill and art of swimming. To pursue this passion and to share it with others, she established the Splish Splosh Swimming School.
Vicky talked to us about her classes "Learning to swim should be an enjoyable and safe pursuit and these are the main principles of the school. Pupils not only benefit from the potentially life-saving ability to swim but vital exercise is also achieved. At all of our schools, there is only ever a maximum class size of eight being taught in the pool at any one time. For children aged 3 months to 4 years class sizes never exceed 6. If we have no spaces in our schools, we simply create new lessons or find new locations. Swimming is not just a sport, it is also a lifesaving skill and we would not want to deny anyone learning this."
"As well as seeing a high demand for baby, preschool and aged 4+ swimming lessons, we have had a high demand for adult swimming lessons, a competitive club and disabled swimming lessons across the region."
"Why not check out www.splishsploshswimmingschool.com to see if we provide swimming lessons in your area or call us on 0844 264 1102 for more details?"
"If we don't, why not suggest where we can run swimming lessons need you? We can get them up and running and offer you some free lessons as a thank you for finding a venue!"

The Potato Story Bus...did you spot it?
Designed by McCain to educate children aged 7 - 11 year olds about
food provenance (that's where food comes from to you and me), this purpose-built
double-decker bus aims to teach kids about how the humble potato makes its
amazing journey from field to fork. The bus also provides curriculum-aligned
lesson plans for teachers to use in class, bringing to life the core elements of
the website and interactive educational resources available at www.thepotatostory.co.uk
The Potato Story
showcases the best way to grow and harvest potatoes as well as different methods
to prepare them to eat. The core elements of the story are brought to life on
the bus by a 'farmer' in his field and the 'cook' in her kitchen; making it an
interactive learning experience in which children are encouraged to
participate.
Prominent child psychologist Dr Richard Woolfson says of the
bus: "Lack of food knowledge and a misunderstanding of what constitutes 'healthy
food' mayhave a serious impact on the eating
habits of children in the future. Food provenance is a big part of this, as it's
very important that children understand where their food comes from in order for
them to develop healthy eating habits from an early age."

Real Life Parties
A Jo Jingles 2nd Birthday Party by Cherlyn
"We started off with the song to say hello to Jo who is the doll from the classes and each child in turn gets to say hello to jo in their own way, this is the same as it would be in the class. We then went on to sing a few songs before the first toy came out. The first toy was a stick with ribbons on that could be swirled about, we did this to the wheels on the bus, and all the children joined in, including the ones that had never been to musical classes before. The first instrument to come out is the drum which is one of my daughter's favourites and had been requested. Again everyone was participating as it was such fun. This was suitable as we had some babies attending and they could shake the maracas. Towards the end we also had a pass the parcel, the parcel was supplied by me but the host was in charge of the music. This took the stress away from me and I was able to sit with my daughter and enjoy.
At the end of the session each child got to say goodbye to the doll Jo, and the face painting commenced. The face painting, even though most of the children were young, was absolutely fantastic. My daughter has a feeding tube and yet was still able to have her face painted, the host just painted around it which was great.
The party was held in our living room which is quite small, as the weather was very wet we could not go outside. I had 10 children and their parents and it worked really well, even though it was a small space.
The
cost of this party was £70 and I truly believe that it was worth every
penny. This amount included the music session, a present for the
birthday girl, face painting and a short Jo Jingles CD.
I know a fantastic time was had by all!"
