'Having fun with the children isn't about spending
money. There are simple games you can play whether you're on the beach, in a
campsite, in the back garden or stuck indoors thanks to yet another rainy
day. I like to make up games using
things that you already have lying around so you don't have to buy anything ... or

Real Parties - a Party Prep!
Sam, founder of www.whatson4.com, tells us about the build up to her daughter's 5th party - and find out how it went next month!
I'm an ex-project manager so planning is my game! And Alice's 5th birthday party is no exception.
I wrote the www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk party planner based on Alice 4th birthday party and with input from friends so I wanted to use it and improve it this time.
But even I was out-planned as several eager Mums from Alice's class at school asked way back in March what date I was planning for her party! So I decided that I best get cracking and decided on the Sunday before her birthday (aren't mid-week birthdays a pain!) and checked with the grandparents to see if they could help. We have several local halls so I opted for the bigger one and was pleased to see that they were listed on www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk which meant I could check the cost, availability and email them to book - rather than try and catch the bookings secretary by phone. So that was the first job done.
 I then used www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk again to find an entertainer and narrowed it down to two. I emailed for prices and gave Alice the choice. She choose Wayne Wonder, and I think the bubble machine swung it. I'm pleased with what Wayne offers as he does a 2 hour show, provides invites and party bags. And when his booking pack came they all looked very good quality. This means I just have to worry about the food! And I took Alice to the supermarket to choose a cake, chocolate slab cake for party, and huge pink fondant fancy cake for her actual birthday day!
I think I sent the invites out a bit early, maybe 6 weeks was too far in advance! But most have replied now (why do people not?) and we have 26 coming. I'm now about to order party boxes for food (I think!) and napkins in purple to match Wayne's colours. Can't think of anything else?
