Greetings

With the rash of disturbing and controversial revelations in the news each day-swine flu, war in the Middle East, inadequate health care, job lay-offs, Madoff and the economy in general--I count my blessings that the field of planned giving exposes me to the generous side of people and a more positive view of the world. Yes, I know the recession is not making our work as professionals particularly easy, but considering the wealth (no pun intended) of opportunities we have for professional development and networking in the coming months, I think we should all feel fortunate. npdstdcharlotte

I'm happy to report that registration for the September 2 program featuring John Brown is at capacity and many NCPGC members are using this opportunity to invite their colleagues and co-workers who do not live and breathe planned giving to participate in this as a training event. When was the last time your advancement, development, or charitable planning staff had a professional opportunity of this caliber to share with others in your organization?

In addition, we have great plans for our November 5th meeting in Charlotte and a wonderful collaboration with Charlotte Leave A Legacy. The dialog will center on the charitable conversation between planners, professional advisors, and donors and should reveal some worthwhile tools for all of us. We know that resources are tight and schedules are busy.  That is why this NCPGC board is working diligently to plan the best possible programs at reasonable cost to our membership.  We appreciate your support for our efforts.

We invite your involvement and input if you wish to contribute to the enhancement of our organization and its activities by assisting with one of our on-going committees or short-term projects. President-Elect, David Taylor, is seeking volunteers to fill board slots and subcommittees for next year.  If you want to be more engaged as an NCPGC member, please let David know.

See you in September!

Biggest Change in Planned Giving
"Having been involved in NCPGC since 1997, the biggest change I have seen in planned giving over the years is the growing number of organizations who have implemented planned gift programs into their development operations. It has become obvious that charities across the country have come to realize that planned giving is not just about bequests, but more about a process that can help donors best realize their charitable goals."

Personal Impact of NCPGC
"NCPGC has been an invaluable resource for me professionally, primarily through the relationships I have had the opportunity to develop over the past 12 years.  Through the friendships of so many folks involved in NCPGC, both in the non-profit and for-profit arenas, I have been able to gain advice pertaining to particular situations with gifts and planned gift administration - the type of "real life" advice that has been invaluable."

Membership

The purpose of the North Carolina Planned Giving Council is to encourage the education and training of the planned giving community of North Carolina, which includes development officers for charities and applied professionals--trust officers, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, life insurance agents, and others. NCPGC offers members the opportunity to share the knowledge they possess and to access the information they need. A measure of knowledge is obtained via the programs presented; however, most members agree that one of the primary benefits of membership in the NCPGC is the contacts, friendships, and networking opportunities that result from interaction with other professional gift planners.

Membership programs: Programs of interest are offered to members -- at substantially discounted rates -- throughout the year. Speakers of local and national prominence present topics of current interest. Programs are designed to meet the needs of the various levels of expertise represented by the membership.

National Membership: The Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) addresses the concerns of the charitable community nationwide. NCPG promotes research, education, outreach, government relations, ethics, and diversity. To learn more PPP, Click
