From the President

I hope this greeting from the NCPGC board finds each of you continuing to do the great work that encompasses the field of charitable gift planning.  Your board members are representing you well in planning interesting and relevant programs for the remainder of the year and we encourage you to read your E-news and visit our website often to see the latest announcements.

During a retreat in January, your board discussed drafting a communication to Wells Fargo to indicate our appreciation for the partnership our organization has enjoyed with its predecessor in this area, Wachovia Bank.  From providing strong Council leadership from among its ranks, to funding our meetings and conferences with generous sponsorships, Wachovia has been loyal and supportive to our statewide organization.  The bank has been especially generous, also, to the nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and religious organizations across this state.  I want each of you to know that we have acknowledged these contributions in a letter to the bank's new leadership.

Don't forget the NCPGC/SCPGC jointly-sponsored meeting at Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC on May 5 and 6.  The beautiful mountain setting, great food, and stimulating expert speakers will be well worth the price!  Discounted registration for NCPGC members is still available.

Note the date for our late summer/fall meeting is September 2 and our presenter is John Brown.  Please mark your calendars for this very special opportunity.

Kanuga Planned Giving Conference May Meeting

May 5-6, 2009 - Hendersonville, NC

Are you looking for a planned giving conference that will...

  • Give you more information than what you can get from a two-hour lunch meeting?
  • Cover technical topics as well as practical marketing topics?
  • Supply useful information for the new people on your staff as well as the seasoned professional?
  • Offer presentations you usually have to go to a big national conference to hear?
  • Provide a relaxed atmosphere where you can network and enjoy the company of other professionals at a cost that won't break your budget?

 Well.....you've found it!

The South Carolina and North Carolina Planned Giving Councils have put together such a conference in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina at the Kanuga Conference Center.

The NC Planned Giving Council has approved $50 rebates for the first 30 NCPGC members who register for this conference.  Do not delay - scholarships are going fast!

Looking for a Few Good Committee Members

The board of NCPGC is grateful to MaryBeth Schotzinger, Senior VP of Donor Relations, Triangle United Way, for providing "non-board member" assistance with the Council meeting in February.

We invite others to help us by volunteering to assist with Communitycommittees that help make our organization run more smoothly.

Opportunities for involvement include the Program Committee, which assists at the registration table and with speaker and venue arrangements at Council meetings; the Communications Committee, which coordinates items of Council interest with the Chapter Administrator and determines appropriate ways to communicate information to Council members; and the Membership Recruitment/Retention Committee, which provides information to interested prospective members and guests and gathers results of meeting surveys to help guide board decisions.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email us
John Brown Coming to Greensboro for September 2nd meeting

The NCPGC meeting on September 2 will feature John Brown at the Elliott University Center at UNC-Greensboro.  Plan for an expanded full-day program lasting from about 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  You will definitely not want to miss this great professional development opportunity.  More details to follow.

About the presenter:
John Brown, President and Founder, John Brown Limited

John founded John Brown Limited in 1978 on the philosophy that development professionals are most effective when their strategies include respect for donors' interests; relationship building; rehearsed, but comfortable solicitation; and planned giving integrated into all major gift endeavors. The hallmark of John's John Brown NCPGCcounsel is to motivate organizational leaders in building ownership among their constituents, and consistently achieving a greater level of success in fundraising.

Under John's leadership, JBL has served thousands of clients. By fostering donor ownership and respect, his clients run capital and endowment campaigns, effective major/planned gift programs and, most importantly, long-term financial and membership growth.

Prior to opening his own firm, John served in several major gifts and planned giving positions at Syracuse University. He later created and directed the planned giving program at Harvard University, and was a founding member of the Planned Giving Group of New England. John volunteers his time lecturing at professional nonprofit conferences each year, including CASE and AFP.

Membership

NCPGC HANDSThe purpose of the North Carolina Planned Giving Council is to encourage the education and training of the planned giving community of North Carolina, which includes development officers for charities and applied professionals--trust officers, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, life insurance agents, and others. NCPGC offers members the opportunity to share the knowledge they possess and to access the information they need. A measure of knowledge is obtained via the programs presented; however, most members agree that one of the primary benefits of membership in the NCPGC is the contacts, friendships, and networking opportunities that result from interaction with other professional gift planners.

Membership programs: Programs of interest are offered to members -- at substantially discounted rates -- throughout the year. Speakers of local and national prominence present topics of current interest. Programs are designed to meet the needs of the various levels of expertise represented by the membership. Educational credits are offered whenever possible.

National Membership: The Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) addresses the concerns of the charitable community nationwide. NCPG promotes research, education, outreach, government relations, ethics, and diversity. To learn more PPP, Click HERE.
