Your Contributions At Work...
All Carlos Wanted Was A Shirt

   Thank you from children

Carlos, a first grade student in my class couldn't do his work at home. His family struggled to make ends meet, they were constantly moving and he had learning problems and trouble focusing.  Carlos' family also couldn't afford basic supplies like crayons, markers, or glue.  Fortunately, thanks to United Way, I have a treasure chest full of incentives and supplies for my students and was able to provide Carlos with the supplies he needed to complete his homework.

One day, Carlos came in proudly to tell me that he had completed his homework all by himself. I asked him what he would like from the treasure chest. Carlos simply responded, "A shirt". This little boy didn't want a toy or game like many of the other students would have picked; all he wanted was a shirt. Carlos just wanted clothing that was his and that he didn't have to share with his brothers and sisters. He was so proud of that shirt.

Carlos had projects due every month for the Language Arts program and he was always excited to show me his work. Once after visiting the treasure chest, he told me that he wished I was his mom and that I was a great teacher. I started tearing up. This couldn't have been possible without the extra clothing and supplies that I receive from the United Way School Tools Program. Thank you for all that you do and for caring about kids!!!!

Help Us Give Kids The Tools They Need To Succeed In School

 Supply Drive logo

Each year, thousands of children go back to school without the supplies they need to learn and succeed. Most schools now ask parents to purhcase a substantial list of supplies at the beginning of the school year.  But for families who are struggling to put food on the table, school supplies cannot be provided and continued cuts to academic budgets prevent teachers from being able to provide extra supplies - ultimately compromising a child's ability to be successful in school.

But you can help be part of the solution by hosting a school supply drive this summer anytime between July 15th -August 31st. With back-to-school specials starting to hit the stores, summer time is the perfect time to host a school supply drive! We're looking for organizations and companies to host supply drives and collect the following items:

  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue Sticks
  • Rulers
  • Colored Pencils
Contact Dixie Torres at (909)980-2857 ext. 216 to see how you can host a supply drive and be part of the solution!

July 2011 Company of the Month

We are pleased to announce that Target has been selected as our July 2011 Company of the Month!

Target, one of the leading retail stores in the nation, is a strong supporter of our local community and United Way is thankful to have Target as one of our strongest partners in the Inland Empire.

Over the past year, Target has contributed more than $150,000 to Inland Empire United Way to help disadvantaged children and families in our community. In addition, Target and its employees regularly contribute their time to supporting local nonprofits through volunteering. These are just a few of the many reasons that Target is being recognized as our July 2011 Company of the Month.
