Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child!

Your dollars are making a difference in the lives of children throughout the Inland Empire! With 1 in 5 children in the region at-risk of going to bed hungry, you are helping to make sure that children are fed and receive the tools they need to succeed in school. With your help, we can help other students like Carlos.
The Kids Pack Program has impacted so many students at our school. A student that stands out in my mind is Carlos. This sixth grade student was introduced to me by another student at the beginning of the school year. I was able to build rapport with Carlos very easily and before I knew it he was visiting my office daily.
On one particular day Carlos asked me if I had a shoe box to spare. He needed a shoe box for a class assignment which required him to bring one from home. You see, Carlos did not have a shoe box at home because he NEVER had a new pair of shoes. His shoes had always been either handed down by a family member or purchased at a garage sale.
Shoes were not the only need of this student. The family was homeless and at-risk of hunger too. Among other resources provided to the family, all three siblings were referred to the Kids Pack Program.
The Inland Empire United Way Kids Pack Program has helped this family in more ways than one. Since participating in the program, teachers have reported increased class participation and attentiveness during class instruction. Moreover, these students have been shown consideration. Every time they pick up their pack they feel special.
Sincerely,
An Outreach Consultant at Howard Elementary School

Local teen recognized as "Top Dawg" for her commitment to serving her community
| Congratulations Haley Yzaguirre for being recognized as our "Top Dawg" at last week's Teens Make a Difference Ceremony. Haley, a student at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, was recognized for volunteering the most hours by a high school student in the past year, volunteering a grand total of 1,360 hours! Haley spent her time volunteering at the Redlands Community Hospital, knitting caps for premature babies, and volunteering with her local National Charity League.
The 18th Annual Teens Make a Difference Ceremony that recognizes outstanding local high school students for their volunteer service was held on May 11th at the Inland Center Mall in San Bernardino. A total of 901 high school students volunteered a total of 77,821 hours and were recognized at the event. All of the students who were recognized juggle school work, extracurricular activities, and still manage to volunteer their time to improve our local community. They inspire people of all ages to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of others. Congratulations to Haley and to all of the participants in this year's Teens Make a Difference Program!
