11 New Schools to Receive School Tools!

We are thrilled to announce that over 10,000 additional children in our community will receive school supplies this year!   By recently adding 11 new schools, we have increased the total roster to 38 Inland Empire schools participating in our School Tools Teacher Resource Center!

Inland Empire United Way's School Tools program provides new, quality school supplies to disadvantaged children in some of our most challenged neighborhoods.  Select schools within the following cities participate:  Fontana, Ontario, Montclair, Chino, Redlands, Yucaipa, Rancho Cucamonga, La Verne, San Dimas, Upland, Claremont and Pomona.  For a complete list of schools, click here.

Every full-time teacher at each of the 38 schools is eligible to visit our Teacher Resource Center up to twice annually and walk away with $800-$1,000 of brand new school supplies for their students and classroom!  Last year, United Way was able to distribute over

$1.4 million in new supplies to help at-risk students to succeed and we are excited to have just added 11 new schools to benefit from this powerful program!

What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving season?

Truly, we have so much to be thankful for.  Here's a short list that the United Way staff compiled:
  • The countless volunteers who have given their time to help better our community.
  • Each of our partners who run annual United Way campaigns.  Truly, it is the small contributions of many that allow us to change lives in the Inland Empire.
  • Our outstanding nonprofit partners for their tireless work in the areas of education, health and financial stability.
  • A strong and dedicated staff team that works behind the scenes to provide daily support to those in need.
  • A community that cares enough to "unite" and support those in times of crisis.

So, what are YOU thankful for?  We want to hear from you!  Log on to our Facebook page to tell us what you are grateful for this Thanksgiving season!

Congratulations to Automated Data Processing (ADP) for being named Inland Empire United Way's November 2010 Company of the Month!

ADP, the largest employer in San Dimas, has consistently been one of United Way's top 20 contributors in the Inland Empire for many years.  We are continually impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment to United Way's mission by involving their employees in a variety of creative ways.

This time of year gives an opportunity to pause to consider the many outstanding partners who make it possible for us to impact lives for the better.  The 2-1-1 system would not even exist if there wasn't a solid network of providers who administer a wide range of services to our communities.  2-1-1, United Way's 24/7 free health and social service information line, has detailed information on the offerings of 967 separate agencies currently.  These resources range from the most basic of services to more esoteric categories like:

ˇ         Food, clothing, and shelter

ˇ         Job training and employment

ˇ         Legal assistance, public safety, and consumer assistance

ˇ         Education and educational support services

ˇ         General and mental healthcare

ˇ         Arts, community development, and volunteerism

ˇ         Much, much more!  (To see for yourself, visit http://211sb.org.)

Because of this extensive provider network, the easy and free call to 2-1-1 successfully connects more than 3,000 families and individuals to the resources they need every month.  For the important work  that these agencies and their dedicated staff perform, and their willing partnership, the 2-1-1 staff stand up and cheer to give a hearty THANK YOU!!
