2-1-1 True Story

A woman with four children dialed 2-1-1 from a motel room, and was very concerned that her husband had not returned to the motel in two days.

She explained how her husband normally went out for the day to look for work and would return in the evening. Aware of their tough living conditions she feared that he might have abandoned them and was now unsure of how to pay the motel.

Besides giving her referrals for motel vouchers we began to discuss her situation knowing that she now needed more than just her immediate need of a motel voucher.

2-1-1 was also able to refer agencies for food stamps, employment, child care, and food pantries. We were very pleased to hear her tone of voice change from desperation to one of hope and motivation.
