Greetings!
|
Thank you for your commitment to our community and for your support of Inland Empire United Way! I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new President and CEO for this outstanding organization. It has been an exciting first month at IEUW with much happening...a tremendous 2010 volunteer recognition event, United Way Worldwide's Staff Summit and Community Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., Lefty's Family Fun Day and 5K at the Auto Club Speedway, the Cesar Chavez Day of Service, and a busy season for our partnership in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Over the past 13 years, I have had the privilege of working for a number of non-profit organizations focused on homelessness, education and disadvantaged children. At each of those agencies, I found one thing in common...a partnership with United Way. And what I can tell you is that United Way truly is doing some very important work in our community - and making a real difference for children and families in the Inland Empire. Delivering nutritious food to hungry children, providing resources to struggling single moms, equipping low-income students with crucial school supplies and connecting caring volunteers with vital service opportunities...this is all happening daily at United Way! I am excited about the opportunity to lead this tremendous organization and I value your input as we consider how to continue increasing our impact in the community during such a challenging time for many. Feel free to contact me at gbradbard@ieuw.org or (909) 980-2957 ext. 204. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you in the near future. In the meantime, thank you for your continued support of United Way's impact in the Inland Empire!
Sincerely,
Gregory Bradbard President & CEO

Lefty's Family Fun Day & 5K Event Recap
On Saturday, March 27, thousands of Inland Empire children and their families participated in the inaugural Lefty's Family Fun Day and 5K, a free family day and expo with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles by encouraging physical activity and healthy food choices. The event was highlighted by a fun, non-competitive 5K run, walk, skate or ride. Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker, City of Fontana Mayor Mark Nuami, and San Bernardino County Supervisors Paul Biane and Josie Gonzales were in attendance. After the 5K, participants wearing their 5K bib were admitted FREE to the Suzuki AMA Pro SuperBike Challenge.
Start your engines! The Auto Club Speedway Pace Car leads thousands of 5K participants on and around the track.
In addition to the 5K, families enjoyed fun-filled activities at the Healthy Communities Expo that included demonstrations, sports activities and a variety of state, county and local agencies providing information, displays, interactive exhibits and services to help fight childhood obesity.

Inland Empire United Way's Education & Health Initiative hosted the LIVE UNITED Soccer Clinic. Hundreds of children and families participated in a fun scrimmage with the Cal Poly Pomona Women's Soccer Team, and then visited our friends at the LA Galaxy Street Team. Our amazing partners from Target were on hand to award each participant with fun prizes.
GOOOOOOOAL! Members of the LA Galaxy Street Team and the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Women's Soccer Team helped make our LIVE UNITED soccer clinic a success.

Kids of all ages participated in the LIVE UNITED Soccer Clinic.

Since the start of our program year in July, our Education & Health initiative has hosted 450 amazing volunteers, who have generously donated 1,235.5 hours of service.
In March, we were fortunate to have the assistance of team Blue 7 AmeriCorps NCCC. AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is a full-time, team-based residential program for men and women ages 18-24. NCCC members are organized into teams of 10-12 members and serve in the region's local communities by responding to community needs in the areas of: disaster preparation, response and recovery; environmental conservation; public safety; urban and rural development; and education.
Team Blue 7 helped out in many ways, including:
- Stocking the School Tools Teacher Resource Center
- Cleaning all the Kids Pack food bins
- Cleaning and organizing the Kids Pack Warehouse and School Tools Warehouse
Thank you team Blue 7 from AmeriCorps NCCC!
Our volunteers have lent their hands to many projects during business hours, evenings and weekends to support Education & Health (click on link below to see who they are).

Cesar Chavez Day of Service Re-cap |
Inland Empire United Way, an affiliate of HandsOn Network, engaged the community in a day of volunteer service in honor of Cesar E. Chavez Day on Saturday March 27, 2010. We led more than 75 volunteers in transforming Chavez's core principles into community service projects that addressed such issues as the environment, poverty and diversity. These volunteers gathered at multiple project sites to work together and helped transform local shelters, neighborhoods, and local non-profits through murals, gardens, and the arts!
