On Sunday, November 22, 2009, Inland Empire United Way held its first LIVE UNITED flash mob event that took place at The Shoppes at Chino Hills, Promenade. United Way staff, family, board members, and volunteers gathered to unveil their LIVE UNITED t-shirts, hold up signs to show their impact in the community, and appeared frozen for a few minutes at exactly 1:30 p.m.

A photo slideshow and video is now available online at www.ieuw.org/multimedia.html.

LIVE UNITED is a call-to-action for everyone to become a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future. United Way's goal is to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a good life: Education, Income and Health.

Kids Pack
In its fifth year, Kids Pack continues making a difference in the lives of children. The program not only provides homeless and very low-income kids with nourishment over the weekend, but it also provides security, consistency, and a sense of belonging.

"Travis is your not-so-average eight year old. He has been though more physical, emotional and mental problems than most adults have been through in a lifetime. His parents struggle to provide a healthy, positive environment for him. Travis is a new student to Redwood Elementary this year, and has had a rough transition. Fortunately, due to the care and support of his teachers, he was recommended for United Way's Kids Pack program. The Monday after his first weekend in the program, he was SO happy!  When he asked why he got the food, I explained to him it was because he was special and that he would receive this 'treat' EVERY Friday for the rest of the school year. His smile was incredibly heartwarming.  Now every time I see Travis, he gives me a big hug and asks, 'Is it Friday yet?' He looks forward to his bag of weekend food, knowing that someone out there cares enough about him to make this happen.  Thank you for everything you do!"

Starting in January, the winter series of Season of Service will continue with "Seniors, Stories and Something Sweet."

Join us for our winter series of projects focused on providing social time for seniors at local non-profit agencies. Each project will occur at different senior homes within the Inland Empire. The three projects will provide sustenance, fun and companionship for the seniors.

Once a month, volunteers and seniors will spend time talking and exchanging stories of childhood memories. Volunteers and seniors will then engage in fun crafts that will preserve the seniors' stories.
