Kids In Need Foundation 2009 Summit
Indianapolis, IN

From June 22-24, KidSmart staffers Lorraine Ousley and Carrie Benavides attended the annual Kids In Need Foundation Summit in Indianapolis, Indiana.

As always, the Summit was an excellent chance to learn, network, share best practices, and meet with the other Kids In Need affiliates from across the country.

The Summit included a fun evening of duck pin bowling, two full days of conferencing, and a tour of our host center, Teachers Treasures in Indianapolis.

Special thanks to the Kids In Need Foundation, Teachers Treasures, the Summit Planning Committee and all of the session presenters for putting on such a great event.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year at A Gift for Teaching in Orlando, Florida!

Kids Pack
The Kids Pack program supplies homeless and very low-income school children with backpacks filled with nutritious foods to ensure the child has enough to eat during weekends, when school meals are not available.

Through partnerships with local school districts, schools, businesses and other community groups, Kids Pack is ultimately working to ensure that the most food-insecure and hungry children are better able to succeed in school

In the 2008-2009 school year, 37,988 Kids Pack backpacks of food were delivered to hungry kids each weekend, when school meals are not available.

1,433 children from 65 schools and 9 districts participated in the program.

About IEUW KidSmart

The IEUW KidSmart initiative of Inland Empire United Way provides disadvantaged children with the resources they need to learn and succeed in school. All children deserve the tools that will inspire and prepare them for a better future.

By removing barriers to success, KidSmart programs are working in our community to alleviate childhood hunger and food insecurity, encourage fitness and good nutrition for kids, and provide supplies for school and to meet other basic needs.
