| Healthy Kids Mini-Grants
Ballet Program |
KidSmart's Healthy Kids Mini-Grants program launched in March 2009! The purpose of the Mini-Grants program is to provide health, fitness or nutrition programs to disadvantaged children and their families in their own neighborhoods. This year, we had the pleasure of working with Randall Graham and the Inland Empire Youth Ballet to provide free ballet classes to residents of the Northtown neighborhood of Rancho Cucamonga. Instructor Randall Graham of the Inland Empire Youth Ballet congratulates the program participants for their terrific performance.
Twelve dedicated girls attended four-weeks of classes at the Northtown Community Center. With no previous dance training, the program participants dazzled us with their new skills at a special performance on March 28. You can watch parts of their performance here and here, too!As a special treat, the Inland Empire Youth Ballet (IEYB) treated us to their premiere performance of Peter and the Wolf. Check out these talented local dancers here! Thanks to our amazing Healthy Kids 2008-09 partners:

| 3rd Annual Kids Fitness Challenge 5K
Auto Club Speedway |
|
The 3rd Annual Kids Fitness Challenge 5K event was held on March 21 at Auto Club Speedway. Nearly 5,000 children and their families attended this free event.

The Arena Indoor Sports Complex co-hosted and helped put on a great soccer clinic.
Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker, San Bernardino County Supervisor Josie Gonzales, and City of Fontana Mayor Mark Nuami were there to welcome and encourage the participants.
For the second year, IEUW KidSmart worked in partnership with Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Athletics and the Arena Indoor Sports Complex to host the soccer clinic, which attracted several hundred kids!
Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's soccer teams co-host the IEUW KidSmart soccer clinic.
Hardworking volunteers from Target and UPS were also there to help out.
Volunteers from Target distributed prizes to soccer clinic participants.

IEUW School Tools is proud to be an affiliate of the national Kids In Need Foundation. Recently, Kids In Need arranged for School Tools to "harvest" and receive 15 pallets of school and office supplies from the Campus Market Expo (CAMEX) trade show for collegiate retailers.

Thank you to the CAMEX exhibitors who generously donated their remaining product at the close of the show, and to our dedicated volunteers who helped gather, sort and load the items. These materials will be put to great use in our local classrooms!
