2-1-1 True Story
2-1-1 received a call from a young man who needed assistance with rent and food.  The gentleman, a veteran who served in the military for seven years, explained he had been out of work for some time and was having difficulty meeting his basic needs.  We were able to not only refer him to the appropriate agencies to assist with food and rent, but also job services to assist with obtaining employment.  He was so grateful for our help.  He explained he had gone to Veteran's Affairs (VA) for assistance but had received none, and he was glad 2-1-1 was there to help.

Spotlight on Para Los Ninos

Para Los Ninos is one of 2-1-1's most referred agencies in the Ontario/ West End area of San Bernardino County. This agency opened it's doors in 1980 as a response to the plight of children living in Skid Row hotels and has since broadened its geographic outreach by opening a new Child Development Center in San Bernardino County, serving nearly 3,500 children.  At the time of the Center's inauguration, San Bernadino County had no nonprofit child care providers, and no other agency utilized Para Los Ninos' wall-to-wall service model that benefits the entire family.

Para Los Ninos further expanded services by opening a Family Resource Center which provides services to over 500 families a year.  Using a proven model that utilizes case management and home visits to high-risk families to reduce the risk of child maltreatment, the Family Resource Center provides crisis intervention, family therapy, parenting classes, referrals and linkage to community partners throughout the County.
