Welcome to Real Birth Stories
resulting in C-section

  An Anonymous Story
I was 26 when I found out I was pregnant with my first son. I was scared and excited. I guess in the back of my head I had this idealistic idea of everything.  I was so intent on a home birth, Bradley method, breastfeeding and all the other good stuff that comes with a baby.  Well, at the time I was working a full time job. I got really bad morning sickness, then I got a respiratory infection. I couldn't even function in daily living. I had to quit working at 4 months.  I got better and went on with our journey.

We didn't have a lot of money and couldn't afford the Bradley classes. So, we improvised and checked all the lessons out on DVD at the library.  We read every book and DVD that we could find.  I wanted a little boy and on our first ultra sound we found out we were having a boy.

Well, needless to say we weren't going to be having a home birth. I have a heart condition that requires monitoring.  My due date came and went nothing. It was 110 outside and I put on 40 pounds to my normal 115.  An induction was scheduled just not at the hospital of my choice.   September 23rd at 7 am they started my induction.  Everything started out just fine-then when it came time to break my water, things got crazy.  The nurse hardly came in at all. My husband ended up having to change my bedding and take care of a lot of things by himself. The pain was so bad. They gave me some stuff through my IV and all I remember is seeing yellow banana men dancing around the room. Then the pain came back. I ended up getting an epidural. It had to be topped off 4 times all together.  Time went on slowly, then at about midnight it was time to push. I pushed for 2 hours and no success. We took a break for about 40 minutes and then pushed again for 2 more hours and nothing. Finally the doctor was call and within 40 minutes, I was in the operating room having a c-section.

Within minutes my son made his appearance weighting in at almost 9 pounds even and 21 1/2 " long. He screamed so loud. I didn't get to hold him until 2 hours later.  They brought him into recovery and I tried to breast feed him. Nothing but problems. Even with the help of a lactation nurse still nothing. I kept trying and ended up having to give him formula.

We went home to start our life as a family.
