Summer Fun
Welcome to the USA Triathlon Southwest Region's quarterly newsletter. Whether you are new to multisport or a seasoned veteran, the Southwest Region is brimming with fun and challenging opportunities to swim, bike and run.

It has been an exciting and busy year so far. Three Southwest Region Championship events have already been contested, San Diego hosted the ITU World Championship Series Triathlon in May and the USAT Southwest Region Council held its annual USAT-SW Membership Rally & Raffle at the Wildflower Triathlons.  If you haven't quite gotten up to speed yet, not to worry.  We have a busy schedule remaining of championship races for adults and many opportunities for youth and juniors to race, too.

We are incredibly fortunate to have top notch, USAT certified race directors who work very hard to produce a variety of safe and challenging races throughout Arizona, California and Nevada. Check out our upcoming championship events, sign up for a race near you and test your fitness. We hope to see you out there having fun in the summer sun. Get out there to race and cheer and enjoy all the multisport lifestyle has to offer!

USA Triathlon F1 Youth Series Update
F1 Series Hansen Dam Award Winners
F1 Elite Series Winners - Hansen Dam - May 20, 2012

In its second year, the USAT Youth F1 Elite Series continues to draw eager, enthusiastic athletes to the sport of triathlon. The  four-race series goal is to help transition young triathletes from entry-level youth or "kids" race format into draft-legal Youth Elite and Junior Elite competition.

Nearly 40 athletes have competed so far in this year's USAT-SW F1 Elite Series. Three of the four 2012 series events are in the books. Current standings are now posted for youth boys and girls ages 12 to 15 and junior boys and girls ages 16 to 18.

Duncan Reid is leading the boys 12-15 category with 300 points having placed first in each of the three series races so far.  Drew Daniels (125 pts) and Carson Gossler (115 pts) are in second and third respectively.  In the junior boys 16-18 category, Dillon Nobbs, is on top of the standings with 300 points, also having secured the top podium spot in each of the first three series races.

On the girls side, Mara Muslea leads the youth girls category on the strength of her participation in all three of the series events to date.  Muslea has 215 points, but is followed closed by Jessica Tomasek (200) who has raced in two series events, placing first in both. Leslie Zhang rounds out the current top three in the standings with 105 points.

The series championship (double points) is slated for September 8 in Pacific Grove. Many thanks to race directors Jim Vance (Fiesta Island), Ian Murray (Hansen Dam) and Terry Davis (Pacific Grove) for your support and hard work in helping to grow the USAT SW Region development programming for youth and juniors.

Current rankings are available on the  USAT-SW Website.
USAT Southwest Region Council News - Elections of New Executive Committee Members
Eric Davidson
Eric Davidson has been elected  Secretary of the USAT-SW Region Council.

On May 17, 2012, the USAT Southwest Region Council thanked Corey McKenna for his service in 2012 as the Council's Vice Chair. His contributions have been key to the success of the activities and initiatives of the council.  The council congratulates Corey on the exciting opportunities that lay ahead and wish him and his wife well as they move to Idaho. Thank you for your service!

McKenna's departure and resulting vacancy, led the USAT-SW Council to elect Todd Larlee (Santa Monica, CA) to the position of Vice Chairperson.

Additionally the council has elected Eric Davidson (San Diego, CA) to the Secretary position vacated by Todd Larlee as he moves to the responsibilities of Vice Chair.

You can contact Todd Larlee or Eric Davidson or any council members via email with your questions, concerns or comments.
