Metepec Cross

The municipality of Metepec is located about 4 miles from Toluca (the capital of the state of Mexico). At an altitude of nearly 8800 feet, it is the highest city in the country, and comes surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, dominated by the white-capped Nevado de Toluca.  The artisans in the village of Metepec are well known for their elaborate, brightly colored pottery sculptures, specifically the Tree of Life but also the wonderful crosses that they create. Metepec celebrates the feast of San Isidro Labrador on May 15 with a procession, market and festival.

Chiapas Bunny

Chiapas Wool Bunny

These charming stuffed animals are handcrafted in the central highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, a region rich in indigenous culture, natural beauty and ancestral crafts. Weaving and embroidering textiles is a tradition in this region that descends from the ancient Maya. These handicrafts encourage the continuation of long established hand-weaving techniques while creating a unique source of income for dozens of women.   This has led to personal and financial independence and improved quality of life for the women involved in the project, as well as their entire families.
