DIA DE LOS MUERTOS People often compare Day of the Dead to Halloween. While at first glance the two may appear to be similar, in truth, the two celebrations are completely different. 'Dia de los Muertos' is a Mexican holiday which is celebrated to remember and honor their past loved ones. This celebration was originated by the Aztecs and their beliefs coincided with the Australian Aborigines. They both considered life to be a dream and when you die you awake to your real life. It is traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in Mexico and the Southwestern US. In preparation, altars are created where pictures of the deceased are placed along with their favorite food and drink and candles are lit to light the soul's way home.
