Summer Storm

Nancy Kriebel says she is drawn to the bold shapes and colors found in the New Mexican landscape. "The landscape has always been an inspiration for me.  As a girl camping in the Maine woods, my photographer parents taught me to see the beauty and to be curious, to look at all the details."

Nancy studied drawing and painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, while managing her successful medical and scientific illustration business.  She went on to receive an MFA from the University of Arizona, Tucson.  Recently Nancy has studied Plein air painting and has participated in the Plein Air Painters New Mexico paint outs and shows.  She has exhibited in numerous juried competitions in the Southwest.

The painting above entitled Summer Storm features the view out Nancy's window, looking at the dramatic stormclouds.

Black Mesa

Created in the true method of Plein air painting, outdoors, this piece features the landscape near Black Mesa, a mesa considered sacred by the people of San Ildefonso Pueblo.

New Mexico is called the "Land of Enchantment".  The bright blue skies and the dramatic diverse landscapes have always drawn artists to this area.  They are inspired by the pulsing light and vibrant color that surrounds them.  Inspired by this southwestern state, New Mexico enchants the artist and inspires the painter.

Brenda Roper
  Fenced In or Out

Brenda's work investigates the texture of social relationships, landscape and myth through painting, poetry, sculpture and travel. Drawing inspiration from internal sources and the perspective of travel, the artist uses a palette knife to apply paint and scratches the painting into view, as if excavating. Installations have focused on family secrets, feminism and the concept of democracy. She enjoys working in a variety of media.  This painting entitled Fenced (in or out) uses photo transfer and oil on canvas in a colorful abstraction.

Brenda received her BFA from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and spent a year at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She also attended the artist residency at Vermont Studio Center.  Brenda relocated to Santa Fe, to be an artist in residence at El Zaguan on Canyon Road.
