Steve Reyes

Zuni Sun Print

Steve has traveled and lived in different parts of the country, from New York to California, in small towns and large cities.  He found that his true nest was in the light and beauty of New Mexico.  Steve attended the University of New Mexico studying painting and photography, however he prides himself in being self taught.  Steve has mastered the techniques of pastel painting.  His work is reflective of New Mexico and is also whimsical in imagery. His New Mexico Heart series explores some of New Mexico's iconic signs and symbols with amusing motifs and beautiful imagery.

"There is a true mystery in beauty;
whether it is embodied in the figure, landscapes, architecture, plant, or wildlife.  This mystery of beauty is for me always elusive, always ambiguous, and always tantalizing.  As an artist I try to paint that mystery, to provide a way into that beauty for my viewers.  When this connection is made, it is then that I feel my work as an artist is complete."

Ralph Sena

  Sacred Heart Earrings

Ralph comes from a long line of blacksmiths, which explains why he feels metalwork is "in his blood". Over the last 30 years his work has evolved, but he continues to work in a range of styles from traditional filigree to unique contemporary pieces.  He holds himself to the highest standards of workmanship and the stones and materials he uses are of the highest quality.  He works mostly in sterling silver and uses the techniques of forging and repousse to manipulate the metal to showcase a precious or semi-precious stone.

Ralph also makes religious objects and has been commissioned by various churches in New Mexico. His repertoire includes monstrances, suboriums, chalices and altars sets.  Ralph's work has been shown in Great Britain, Japan and Italy and his work can be seen in numerous Museum collections in New Mexico.  He is a great teacher and he teaches his craft to others and mentors several young Hispanic artists.

Wanda Lobito

Heart Necklace

Wanda grew up amidst religious icons and has used her skills with silver to create contemporary jewelry reminiscent of devotional relicarios. Relicarios are tiny images of saints set in silver frames. Her relicarios are crafted by hand meticulously from antique and religious images on paper.  She protected these images under stained glass and sets them in sterling silver and often embellishes the metal with precious and semi-precious stones.  Wanda creates these pieces as "personal" altars and it is the wearer's relationship with the image that creates the identity. These personal keepsakes are made to be worn forever.

Wanda has been making jewelry for over 16 years and her work is always changing and her designs and creativity are endless.   Her combinations of images, beads, pearls and milagros are always a surprise for the eyes and always touch the heart.  Her work is thoughtful and always gives the wearer a sense of self, indeed making each piece a keepsake forever.

Douglas Magnus

  Santa Fe Anniversary Heart Necklace

Jeweler Douglas Magnus of Santa Fe created a charming line of jewelry to celebrate our city's 400th anniversary.  Inspired by the Reale silver coins brought by the Spanish to the Americas, Doug re-imagined a colonial design with a modern twist - the initials of Santa Fe, New Mexico, the shape of a sacred heart and the handcraft of silversmithing.
