Times like these require inspiration. What better
place to find this than in beauty. At New Mexico
Creates we present you with beautiful items that have
great stories behind them... Beauty speaks for itself;
we just help it along with a few words and in creating
support for the artists who interpret it!

Jane Gaines
Jane Gaines of Santa Fe often uses beautiful amber
in her jewelry designs. Her designs incorporate
different types
of
amber, including that from Mexico; the Chiapas region
specifically, as in
this stunning necklace set,
which features amber,
silver, citrine and metallic beads. Dating from some
24-30 million years ago (but who's counting!),
Chiapas amber is mined in limited quantities, and is
not treated or stabilized. It comes from a now-extinct
species of tree and displays incredible, deep color,
as in the pendant on this beaded necklace. Set
comes with a pair of beaded earrings.

Elaine Fein
Elaine Fein is inspired, as she says, "by the shapes
of objects and forms I see around me: leaves, pods,
boats, spirals, gourds, the moon." She uses raku
firing for many of her pieces, such as this lovely moon mirror .
It is a process which she describes as "dramatic,
exciting, and unpredictable." As she says "they
reflect
my appreciation for the rich beauty of the New Mexico
landscape." We think you'll agree that the results
are
pretty wonderful.

Richard Lindsay
Santa Fe jeweler Richard Lindsay has long been an
influential figure on the local jewelry scene. His
designs have a timeless quality, such as these lovely
sterling silver double hoop earrings. As he
says, "I have chosen as
part of my hallmark a triangle, the universal symbol of
change. It represents the three main sources of my
artistic inspiration: my love of nature, wildlife and the
outdoors, my roots in the American West and the
stories and symbols of American people's past and
present."

Peter Ray James |

Peter Ray James lives a life of what he calls
the sandwich generation in western New Mexico,
near Thoreau. He is a proud member of the Navajo
People, representing four clans: Towering People,
Two People by the Water, Salt People and the Tangle
People clan. The sandwich refers to his daily life: In
the Navajo tradition, he herds a flock of sheep three
times a week, is close to his parents, then also daily
creates art in a studio with modern conveniences.
His art, while imbued with creativity and spirituality of
a traditional way of life, also speaks to a modern
design aesthetic which resonates with many.
As a painter, Peter has applied this artwork to modern
shaman dolls (as
above) and horse figures
(and below). Made of canvas and willow branches,
the dolls are painted with designs which are regional
representations of prehistorically accurate and
historical motifs. As he states, Every doll is unique
and energetic with fresh ideas. He believes in
creating art with others to promote spiritual health
and build each other up.
